About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Soutions (FES), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.   [FES]

There are two openings, one in Transaction Management and the other in Revenue Management.  They are located at the West Akron Campus (WAC) in Akron, Ohio.



The Transaction Management team is guided by this customer-centric value and supports FES’ retail sales strategy through ease of transaction for new customers and retention of the existing customer base.  The team is responsible for coordination of customer transactions, process review, contract analysis, issue resolution, and strategic improvement management for FES’ customer operations.


Responsibilities include:

  • Providing a high level of customer service, continuous support and proactive involvement with leadership and peers on reporting and analysis of business unit activities
  • Identifying, tracking and processing enrollment, drop and renewal activities for commercial, industrial and residential customers.
  • Performing daily transaction activities
  • Assisting in the processing of customer contracts including coordination of legal reviews, implantation of standard and non-standard contract language and application of contracts to enrollment of a customer
  • Understanding, tracking and implementing transactional rules for each Electric Distribution company (EDC)
  • Conducting transactional specific research, analyzing data, interpreting results, making recommendations and perform appropriate corrections
  • Consistently anticipating and delivering against a defined action plan
  • Developing effective working relationships with employees at all levels of FirstEnergy
  • Offering ideas and suggestions to improve work processes and projects
  • Working closely with all FES business groups and management teams to assist resolving customer issues in a timely manner
  • Working with IT to translate business requirements by creating IT system functional specification documents and creating test plans for system implementations and upgrades
  • Following clearly defined processes and policies to mitigate risk



Revenue Management

The FES Revenue Management team is accountable for ensuring revenue due to the company is billed timely and accurately, is collected and applied to the appropriate customer accounts and ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOx) requirements as well as related performance metrics.  Additionally, the FES Revenue Management group is responsible for managing the two-way transmission of customer data via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).


Responsibilities include:

  • Assist management and coworkers, following well-defined practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Provide sound internal and/or external customer service.
  • Conduct business specific research and analyze large amounts of data; Interpret results; Assist in implementation activities.
  • Monitor EDI system daily batch processing; research and resolve all error conditions.
  • Develop and maintain technical competence in interpreting and monitoring the EDI process, including tracking files and data while abiding by state and utility company rules.
  • Prepare operational and/or financial reports and complete related tasks to support month end close.
  • Analyze and reconcile customer account balances.
  • Ensure compliance with SOx and other audit requirements.
  • Contributing to solutions by taking initiative in developing alternatives and recommendations.
  • Actively seek formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand procedures.
  • Developing effective working relationships with employees at all levels of FirstEnergy.
  • Offering ideas and suggestions to improve work processes and projects.




  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field required
  • Minimum 0-7 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include the demonstrated ability to:
  • Maintain a questioning attitude with a willingness to make recommendations when process and system improvements are needed
  • Communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with the ability to tailor messages to appropriate audience
  • Good organization skills with ability to multi task, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Practical business experience in a fast paced operational environment preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Business and financial acumen
  • Background knowledge of retail electric industry preferred
  • Project management experience with small size projects
  • Positive attitude and proactive behavior
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word). Working knowledge of database query tools or knowledge of SAP or related enterprise resource planning (ERP) packages a plus.
