About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co. a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [SC00]

 

The position is within the Rates & Regulatory Affairs group and reports to the Director, Rates and Regulatory Affairs.  It is located at the Corporate Office in Akron, Ohio.

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Developing high proficiency in various concepts used in setting the rates that customers pay for electric service, including revenue requirements, cost of service, rates of return, regulatory accounting and the time value of money
  • Supporting appropriate regulatory actions in all FE jurisdictions
  • Coordination with other groups to obtain and ensure completeness and accuracy of information required for transmission formula rate revenue requirement updates, monthly earnings recognition, and annual formula rate update filings as well as state rate cases or ongoing state monthly / quarterly rider updates
  • Reconciling and explaining variances between actual and forecast
  • Supporting FE transmission rate cases before FERC
  • Supporting FE rate cases before state commissions as well as supporting interventions in other utility rate cases before state commissions
  • Providing analytical support to mid to executive level management
  • Assisting management and coworkers, developing and implementing well-defined practices and procedures
  • Conducting business-specific research, analyzing data, interpreting results, and making recommendations
  • Meeting the needs of internal and external customers through sound service and responsiveness
  • Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand evolving regulatory and policy issues
  • Exercising sound decision making by developing alternatives and recommendations to advance Company positions and improve work processes
  • Developing effective working relationships throughout the FirstEnergy organization

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or math or related discipline required.  Advanced degree is a plus. 
  • Minimum 4 years relevant work experience.  Relevant work experience will include analyzing data, interpreting results, developing alternatives and making recommendations in a setting that is relevant and transferrable from a skillset standpoint to rates and regulatory affairs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word).  SAP, Business Explorer, and other data querying tools is a plus.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and develop relationships
  • Demonstrate analytical abilities, including problem solving and decision making
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work extended hours, less than 25% travel annually, could include some overnight stays
