About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
The Compliance Specialist position is within the Asset and Records Control department located at the General Office in Akron, Ohio. The department has been working remotely since the inception of COVID-19 and anticipates to remain primarily remote post-COVID, (e.g. generally working remotely, on average, three to four days a week).
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and understanding rules generated from regulatory entities such as state commissions and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)
- Understanding of the FirstEnergy Substation Maintenance Practices and Methods and applying the proper maintenance requirements to substation equipment
- Assessing compliance for all state and federal regulatory commitments with government regulated policies and standards through regulatory reporting
- Understanding FE compliance with NERC, ReliabilityFirst (RF) and state standards and identify opportunities for improvement in tracking and reporting
- Monitoring, reviewing and analyzing gaps between state rules and NERC standards with existing FEU processes and making recommendations for gap closure
- Conducting research, analyzing data, interpreting results and communicating findings to management
- Reviewing and ensuring technical accuracy of regulatory reports
- Preparing for, coordinating and supporting compliance audits conducted by internal resources, consultants or regulatory organizations
- Anticipating customer needs and delivering high quality results
- Providing assistance during emergencies and storm related activities
Qualifications include:
- Minimum bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline, along with 2 years of related work experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 4 years of related experience will be considered. Related work experience in identifying and acting on process improvements, analyzing and projecting work that must be performed, monitoring requirements to completion. Cascade and substation experience preferred.

- Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Prepare and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Working knowledge of Cascade, PowerBase, QlikView, CREWS, SAP, GIS, PowerOn and querying tools (i.e. Hyperion, Toad) is a plus
- Ability to work during storms
