About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co. a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [SC00]


The position reports to the Manager, Financial and Shared Services Auditing and is responsible for performing SOX-related work and conducting financial and shared services type audits.  The preferred reporting locations are the Corporate Office in Akron, OH or in Greensburg, PA.  Other locations within the FE service territory (OH, PA, W VA, NJ) will be considered with required travel to Akron as needed.


Responsibilities include:

  • Plans, executes, and reports on financial and shared services type audits related to accuracy of records, reliability of reporting, safeguarding of assets, support for external auditors, compliance with certain rules and regulations, etc. Also completes audits in other areas as assigned to ensure completion of the annual Audit Plan.
  • Executes design and operational effectiveness testing for SOX processes to complete our SOX program. 
  • Reviews risks and supporting internal controls in accordance with internal auditing standards to provide assurance around compliance with laws and regulations and the integrity of the financial statements.
  • Provides consulting services to business management on risk identification, and the effectiveness of the design of process and controls.
  • Identifies internal control gaps in processes, controls or systems, and consults with business management on appropriate remedial action.
  • Coordinates with external auditors to complete process walkthroughs, prepare audit population, select appropriate samples, and perform control testing.
  • Employs effective decision making in resolving issues and reaching satisfactory conclusions in a professional manner.
  • Presents and communicates status and issues to Audit and Business Management.
  • With a forward-thinking mindset, actively seeks ways to add value within scope of assignments

  • Identify problems and assist with problem resolution
  • Lead meetings and ensure appropriate follow-up action is taken.  For Auditor IV, participate in and conduct meetings with senior management
  • Thoroughly identify and assess risks and controls. For Auditor IV, train business units on risk and controls
  • Manage projects to be on time and within scope and manage time to balance multiple commitments

  • For Auditor IV, develop and demonstrate business and audit expertise





  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline required
  • Professional certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include internal auditing, external auditing, or experience in finance (e.g., financial reporting, accounting, tax) or operational compliance and meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word)
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships.

  • Some travel to company locations is required (less than 20%).  Occasional travel to other locations may also be required.
