About the Opportunity

The Communications Representative, Customer Communications, develops and implements strategic communications for customer-focused programs. In this role, the Communications Rep will be collaborates with team members and key personnel within the company’s Customer and Emerging Technology groups in creating relevant and timely messages and content that keeps customers informed and engaged, increases satisfaction, and enhances the overall customer experience.

The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need.  This option is not available in the states of California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Oregon or Washington at this time.

 

Responsibilities include:
 

  • Drafting, editing and implementing effective key messages, talking points, fact sheets, and web and social content to support customer programs
  • Developing content and managing design and production of all communications materials to reach and engage customers on smart meter implementation in Ohio and New Jersey
  • Collaborating with energy efficiency to produce and implement a comprehensive communications plan containing compelling messaging and supporting data points that illustrate customer benefits of adopting energy efficiency behaviors and programs
  • Working with key internal role players to brainstorm content ideas in line with the company’s strategy and in support of various brand initiatives
  • Adhering to the company’s style guide, ensuring that we produce high-quality and error-free copy
  • Supporting and evaluating results of communication campaigns with the team
  • Monitoring media and social media discussions on customer-related topics and leverage insights to strengthen FirstEnergy’s communications approach
  • Seeking out media opportunities to ensure visibility of FirstEnergy’s customer story
  • Serving as part of the External Communications department after hours media on-call rotation, providing evening and weekend response for outage and other media inquiries
  • Providing support during large scale outages or other significant events as part of the External Communications Emergency Response Team
     

Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline is required
  • 2-7 years of relevant work experience is required. Relevant work experience includes writing, editing, marketing, communications or social media.
  • Possesses strong writing and verbal skills and crafts compelling, impactful content based on conducting research and interviewing subject matter experts
  • Knowledge of design, layout and photography principles
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various groups in the organization or on a self-directed basis
  • Works well under pressure and meets right deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Office 365, SharePoint)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with employees at all levels
