About the Opportunity

Position Summary:

Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will be primarily responsible for working across the the various Company business units to advise on all state and federal regulatory matters, including but not limited to state utlity commissions (PUCO, PUC, BPU), the FERC and the NRC.

This individual will advise internal clients with respect to relevant regulatory compliance requirements and issues.  This individual will work closely with retained outside legal specialists. Additionally, this person will also advise on RTO matters (MISO and PJM) as well as state and federal rulemaking proceedings affecting the Company.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Handle legal and regulatory matters before the state utility commissions and appellate courts
  • Work on complex regulatory matters as part of a team consisting of other attorneys, business units, company leadership and outside counsel
  • Handle multiple ongoing cases simultaneously
  • Represent the Company in mediation and litigation as required 
  • Provide advice to Company business units on regulatory matters
  • Work on litigated matters and administrative rulemaking proceedings
  • Support non-regulatory work as required
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

 
Requirements:
 Formal Education & Certification:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law program
  • Member in good standing of the Ohio state bar

 Knowledge & Experience:

  • 7+ years of relevant legal experience
  • Prior experience related to state public utility regulation and practice before state regulatory utility commission
  • High degree of professionalism and ethical conduct
  • Well organized and efficient; able to prioritize, multi-task and meet multiple deadlines promptly and under minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with contract law, regulatory compliance, and licensing
  •  Experience drafting, reviewing and evaluating contracts
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant statutes, regulations, and laws related to the business
