POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will be primarily responsible for supporting legal needs related to the Company’s retail business. This person will assist in drafting, negotiating and analyzing customer contracts, broker agreements, licensing agreements, derivative contracts (ISDAs) related to sales and marketing activity, back office functionality and providing legal advice related to advertising, marketing and promotional initiatives.  Additionally, this individual will advise and counsel on state regulatory compliance, retail related litigation and customer service complaints.  The individual will also be responsible for interfacing with retained outside legal counsel supporting retail.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Analyze legal and business issues of the Retail department and develop recommendations
  • Provide legal support on all marketing and promotional campaigns to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Develop and maintain forms and agreements to support business development and vendor management activities
  • Develop and execute projects to support business initiatives which have legal considerations
  • Advise Retail leadership and other stakeholders on relevant state and federal laws and regulations that may affect current or future product offerings
  • Support creation of internal playbooks, processes and checklists
  • As needed, conduct meetings with stakeholders to communicate the progress of ongoing legal matters
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 
Formal Education & Certification

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law program
  • Member in good standing of the Ohio state bar

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience
  • 2+ years of experience with retail electricity markets and regulations
  • High degree of professionalism and ethical conduct
  • Well organized and efficient; able to prioritize, multi-task and meet multiple deadlines promptly and under minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with contract law, regulatory compliance, and licensing
  • Experience drafting, reviewing and evaluating contracts
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant statues, regulations, and laws related to a Retail electricity business
