  • Customer: create analytics to improve customer satisfaction along the customer journey for a lifetime as they move-in to a residence, pay their bill and move to new residences.
  • Transmission & Distribution: develop algorithms to detect asset failures, reduce outages and provide reliable electricity to customers.
  • Smart Meter: provide customers with the electric usage they need to make smart decisions about their home as well as reduce threats and theft in the electric system.


What you’ll do:


As a Data Architect at FirstEnergy you will help define the data and analytics architecture for the enterprise.  You will provide leadership, strategic decision-making, and guidance on digitally enabling the company to best position ourselves to use our data as an asset.  This will include researching, architecting, and defining data management, advanced analytics and business intelligence roadmaps that will enable support of the business needs and goals. Furthermore,

  • You will create, maintain, and communicate positioning and roadmap strategies for data and analytical capabilities and tools.  You will monitor technology trends and perform discovery of any new tools/capabilities of interest.
  • You will define data governance processes and responsibilities to ensure alignment to enterprise guidelines for security, auditability, data literacy and metadata management
  • You will review analytic solutions for re-usability, scalability, synergy opportunities and alignment to defined best practices and guidelines
  • You will help define/improve best practices, guidelines and integration with other enterprise solutions
  • You will have strategic relationships with technology vendors and external communities/partners
  • You will lead education and training (i.e. data literacy) for analytics community
  • You will benchmark data and analytic capabilities at FirstEnergy with industry analysts and other companies



What You Will Need to be Qualified:


  • You have a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science or another related field with 7 years related experience.  In lieu of a degree, you have 9 years of related experience.
    • Your related experience should include in depth knowledge of: designing and developing complex, high-quality analytical solutions, RDBMS, ETL and data governance
  • You have 3+ years in an Analytic Architecture role designing technology architectures, detailed workflows, best practices and governance guidelines
  • You have experience in creating, analyzing and documenting ER and Dimensional models (prefer ERWIN experience)
  • You have experience with development and tuning on RDBMS technology including Teradata, SingleStore, Oracle or SQL Server
  • You have knowledge and experience in developing and tuning ETL processes using PowerCenter, Informatica Data Replication (IDR), webMethods or other comparable tools, preferred 
  • You have knowledge and experience with data governance tools (prefer the Informatica suite of Axon, Enterprise Data Catalog and Data Quality)
  • You have hands-on experience working with analytical technologies like R/Python/RapidMiner and BI technologies like QlikView/Tableau/Power BI
  • You have experience in Agile/Scrum development with DevOps methodologies geared toward rapid prototyping and piloting of cloud solutions  
  • You can phase the delivery of analytical solutions such that it can meet immediate needs, while building towards the long-term strategic solution
  • You have strong communication skills with the ability to align the organization on complex technical decisions
  • You are willing to travel throughout the organization and service territory and work extended hours, as required
