About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]


This position is within the Transformation group, reports to the Vice President, Transformation and can be located in any of the FirstEnergy Locations.

This position is responsible for leading the systematic development, standardization, optimization, implementation, management, oversight and support of the scheduling, execution and effectiveness tracking.  This position is also responsible for the governance of assigned Emerging Technology Programs (distribution platform enhancement, smart meters, smart street lighting, smart cities, Electric Vehicle infrastructure, microgrids, storage, solar) across all FirstEnergy Utilities operating companies.


Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership for the scheduling, project management, construction management, program level forecasting, as well as safety and quality programs.  This includes regulatory interface, reporting, and leading collaborative efforts
  • Providing leadership support and partnership with EmT Strategy Group, ensuring the groups work seamlessly to identify and evaluate opportunities, gain approval for plans and execute completely.  This includes Program Teams, Roadmap Management, and participation in key industry organizations such as EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) and others.   
  • Supporting EmT (Emerging Technologies) Strategy through all processes (regulatory, policy, advocacy, business strategy, etc.). 
  • Leading resource planning and contractor management required to coordinate resources to deliver projects safely, within schedule, scope and budget. 
  • Innovating and adopting new technologies and approaches.
  • Working across FE operating companies for planning and execution of project deliverables including, engineering, real estate, environmental, permitting, as well as rates and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading long-range planning (10 years) to assist FEU and the OpCo’s in developing consistent longer-term strategies and plans. 
  • Developing Distribution Emerging Technologies Project/Program Methodology (similar to the Transmission Methodology that has been developed) - Methodology and guidelines that will serve to identify potential projects and programs to achieve the overall desired results of improving the health, reliability, and capacity of the FirstEnergy distribution system for now and the future as a Smart Grid.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Finance or a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred
  • PE License, PMP Certification or Continuous Improvement Certification is preferred
  • Minimum of ten years relevant work experience at progressively increasing levels of responsibility is required.  Relevant work experience includes experience with Project and/or Construction Management - leading large complex projects that engage a large team to complete; Distribution Planning and/or Design Engineering experience; Regional Operations Management experience; Corporate management experience; Business Services / Finance or Rates experience; or Customer Service Management experience
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience of corporate management experience as well as experience with large scale Portfolio, Program & Project management is required
  • Demonstrated experience leading matrixed organizations is required
  • Management experience in a GM or Manager role is required
  • Continuous Improvement experience is preferred
  • Experience in Leadership, change management, consensus building skills preferred
  • Understanding of IT systems applied to distribution system operations required
  • Financial Acumen required related to budgeting/forecasting; understanding of rate structure
  • Regulatory knowledge preferred
  • Experience within the Utilities or Electricity sectors preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership in the implementation of complex programs and projects, the ability to make or recommend complex strategic decisions and prioritize competing initiatives is required
  • Ability to learn, grow and work across FirstEnergy and deliver results.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Executive experience, stature, and overall credibility as a trusted business advisor; a change agent with the ability to contribute to the company’s strategic vision
  • Experience providing customer-focused support, both internally and externally
  • Experience in building positive relationships and working with peers cross-functionally, demonstrating teamwork and collaboration
