About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]
 

The reporting location for this role can be any of the FE Transmission facilities in Akron, OH; Greensburg, PA; Reading, PA or Fairmont, WV.

 

This position is responsible for analyzing transmission system reliability performance data, and determining root causes of transmission system reliability issues.  This position is also accountable for determining solutions to resolve transmission system reliability issues, and coordinating / championing those solutions through to implementation.

 

Responsibilities include:
 

  • Initiate actions to collect data and information required for transmission system reliability analysis
  • Organize transmission reliability data to facilitate analysis of transmission system reliability
  • Perform formal and rigorous analysis to determine the cause(s) and/or root cause of transmission system events
  • Perform statistical analyses of transmission reliability data to identify the primary drivers adversly impacting transmission system reliability
  • Develop and maintain metrics demonstrating how FE transmission system reliability compares to applicable industry standards
  • Develop and maintain leading indicators that ultimately help to predict reliability indices
  • Recommend to management, target levels of FE transmission system reliability performance relative to industry norms
  • Work with Planning & Protection, Engineering and others to identify options with recommendations for projects and initiatives to improve FE transmission system reliability
  • Coordinate and champion transmission system reliability improvement projects through to inclusion in transmission portfolio
  • Coordinate activities to assess FE transmission system performance and reliability (e.g. assist visits, self-assessments, etc.)
  • Develop and make presentations to leadership on status updates and/or project justifications
  • Serve as the lead and focal point for the transmission system reliability program across FEU
  • Champion and coordinate transmission reliability improvement initiatives through to conclusion                                                         

 

Qualifications include:

 

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.  In lieu of a degree, a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License is required. 
  • A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 (three) years of Engineering experience is required.
  • A working knowledge of electrical engineering, transmission substation equipment, transmission system protection and transmission system operations is desired
  • Prior experience with root cause analysis, Six Sigma and / or statistical analysis is desired
  • Experience with Lean and/or continutous improvement processes is also desired
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, and deliver results
