About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEG]



The Nuclear Fleet Licensing Engineer is a member of the FENOC Fleet Regulatory Affairs / Licensing organization and reports to FirstEnergy’s West Akron Campus (WAC). 


Responsibilities include:


  • Collaborate with power station and fleet personnel to develop outgoing Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensing communications, including license amendment requests, relief requests, responses to NRC requests for information (i.e. Bulletins, Generic Letters), required regulatory reports, and station positions on regulatory issues
  • Coordinate licensing basis document changes and reviews (Update Final Safety Analysis Report -UFSAR, License Requirements Manuals, Technical Specification Basis, etc.)
  • Serve as the fleet liaison with plant and NRC staffs for licensing issues
  • Review regulations and licensing basis documents to formulate regulatory positions in support of safe plant operation and licensing actions
  • Develop and implement standardized FENOC business practices, policies and procedures with regards to Beaver Valley, Davis-Besse and Perry plant and fleet licensing activities.
  • Participate in regional and national peer groups to influence regulation and policy associated with nuclear licensing issues




  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution is required
  • Minimum of 5 years related professional level experience in the nuclear power industry, or a minimum of 8 years related professional level non-nuclear experience in the electric utility industry required
  • Current or previous possession of Reactor Operator (RO) or Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) license is desired
  • Prior nuclear licensing and related engineering experience is preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make formal technical presentations to various management levels as well as industry groups
  • Teamwork and interpersonal skills to aid in the resolution of technical issues between sites
  • Strong analytical abilities to aid in licensing product and process development
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to plan, develop and implement licensing actions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
