About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [SC00]

The position reports to the VP; Marketing, Product Development & Energy Efficiency and is located at the Corporate Office in Akron, Ohio.


The position will design strategy and set goals for growth related to products and services offerings to the Company’s customers. While leading and growing this business unit segment, controlling budgets, optimizing expenses and ensuring employees are motivated and productive, it will directly oversee all staff associated with portfolio management, product lifecycle performance and business optimization and development which also includes vendor and partner procurement and platform sales.


Responsibilities also include formulating overall strategy of the business and its performance in both a regulated construct and also a separate free-enterprise model while managing people and establishing such things as, but not limited to: goals, objectives, business development initiatives, establishing policies and supporting Company core values. To be successful in this role, you should be a thoughtful leader and confident decision-maker, helping our teams develop to be more productive, while ensuring our profits are on the rise. Further, this role will require a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for driving it to succeed amidst it being the equivalent of a “startup” within a long-established regulated company and, therefore, be accepting of the challenges that come with gaining credibility within the Company and promoting culture change. The role will continue to evolve as the business performance expands beyond its initial needs of leading a team of product support managers and analysts who are responsible for executing strategy and planning.  With the primary focus on enabling the Company’s Consumer Products related businesses in both an established, but limited, regulated portfolio of offerings (products & services) throughout the Company’s operating territory customers and an evolving unlimited free-enterprise portfolio offerings to a more broadly defined target audience of customers. 


The role will also include (but not be limited to) close collaboration with peer level directors and their staffs overseeing Marketing and Operations where you’ll assist in driving demand & conversions for offerings and seamless integration of tools and platforms to satisfy customer experience associated to eCommerce and other vehicles pertinent to effectively engage customers. This position will have a deep understanding of the complexities associated with both the functional platform solutions and its capabilities, demonstrate the ability to architect business-level partnerships and service-level agreements and to effectively run a performance-driven customer engagement business that earns increased customer satisfaction and marginal revenue and successfully articulate and represent the uniqueness of the solution to beneficial others.


Lastly, the candidate will be an inclusive and inspiring leader who will advance the business-level growth agendas in the other areas such as territory expansion and industry expansion. The position will also be responsible for supporting the Company’s innovation engineering process for bringing new offerings, features and benefits to market through working closely with the Innovation Center whose services will include assisting the team in advancing core offerings



Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement effective Consumer Products strategy & planning into the organization with complementary fulfillment to each designed plans’ execution
  • Oversee day-to-day business operations
  • Design strategy and set (and achieve) goals for growth
  • Maintain budgets and optimize expenses
  • Set policies and processes
  • Ensure employees work productively and develop professionally
  • Oversee recruiting and training of staff
  • Manage direct reports plus maintain broad oversight of their staffs
  • Evaluate and improve business plan logic and controls to drive performance
  • Responsible for employee performance process
  • Prepare regular reports for team, peer and upper management
  • Ensure staff follow health and safety regulations
  • Provide solutions to issues (i.e. profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competition, platform growth, more…)
  • Identify suitable customer segments that align them with meaningfully strategic offerings while maximizing the most effective marketing channels which connect them at most opportune times
  • Drive demand of customers to our marketplace(s) and consistently grow conversion
  • Effectively navigate and maximize Customer Lifetime Value while growing customer bases
  • Assist product portfolio managers to maximize and mature their offering(s) lifecycles
  • Develop, integrate and adapt processes into standard operating procedure for offerings
  • Ecommerce platform management
  • Make data-driven decisions to move the team and its offerings forward in order to hit company goals
  • Assist in the development of the strategy for pricing, messaging, packaging, promotion and selling of our offerings
  • Build, grow and lead a team to ensure the success and adoption of our offerings as they go to market
  • Train and support sales and customer support teams on new tools and products
  • Serve as an advocate and brand ambassador for our products through thought leadership
  • Keep the company up-to-date with market trends and competition, and keep us several steps ahead of the competition at all times
  • Prospect, develop and manage any requirements with partners or tools to provide the team with appropriate levels of complimentary, supplemental and/or augmented support



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related discipline required – advanced degree a plus
  • Minimum 10 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include experience in planning and budgeting and knowledge of business processes and functions.
  • Experience in a leadership/executive role managing teams preferred

  • Experience leading and managing a team
  • Sales & Project Management experience within a structured environment – along with any management and/or development roles within “start-ups” a plus
  • Other relevant experience in free-enterprise consumer product marketing, market-planning, digital marketing and product management, campaign automation and data insights
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate cross-functionally amongst peers, direct staff and co-dependency departments and external partners
  • Understanding of regulatory demands within the utility industry preferred
