The Analytic Services Developer is the ideal position for someone who wants to continue to enhance their technical skills as well explore their business analyst skills.  The technical side of an Analytics Services Developer understands how to pull databases together, model solutions, and write code to query data. They like learning how to best utilize technology to solve problems. The analyst side of an Analytics Services Developer is naturally curious, good at listening, asking questions, and digging into business processes to devise innovative solutions to business problems.  At FirstEnergy, the IT Analytic Services Developer uses the QlikView technology to build reporting solutions.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, develop, and test QlikView scripts to import data from source systems and test QlikView reports/dashboards to meet customer requirements
  • Write SQL code to extract and transform data to present to the user
  • Use the QlikView tool to design, development and support business intelligence dashboards and reports
  • Effectively visualize data in QlikView applications (dashboards, reports, etc.) in order to efficiently answer business questions
  • Perform detailed analysis of source system data and model that data in QlikView
  • Complying to the FirstEnergy QlikView development standards and governance to ensure FirstEnergy’s QlikView platform remains stable, reliable, and secure for all users
  • Active participation in a collaborative work environment, across both IT and the business
  • Frequent interaction with business owners/stakeholders to gather requirements for new development projects, assist in defect resolution during testing, etc.

As a FirstEnergy Intern you will also be expected to:

  • Fully participate in the FirstEnergy Co-Op/Intern program mandatory events
  • Utilize knowledge, skills and abilities to work on challenging assignments and contribute to FirstEnergy’s success
  • Gain understanding of the electric utility business and seize the opportunity to explore potential career paths at FirstEnergy
  • Engage in candidate self-assessments and use supervisory feedback to improve your performance
  • Develop career contacts and receive guidance from coaches and peers
  • Network with other students
  • Present to department members and leadership at the end of each session/rotation to highlight projects and contributions.


Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Management Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Computer Science, or an equivalent degree.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required
  • Must be able to work without sponsorship now and in the future
  • Ability to commit to a minimum of two (2) Internship sessions
  • Must be willing to relocate to work location area is necessary
  • Ability to use analytical skills to resolve problems and think creatively
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with minimal supervision.



Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Knowledge of database architecture and design
  • Experience with relational databases, including reading and revising data through software applications
  • Basic understanding of, or experience with, Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Skilled in oral and written communications in order to contribute to meetings and capture requirements as well as write documentation, specifications, procedures and process flows.
  • Basic understanding of the software development life cycle from requirements gathering to implementation.
  • Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects and possesses an aptitude to learn quickly.
  • Proven team player, contributes to team goals, encourages and supports team members.
  • Strong communication skills and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects.
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies
