ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

 

Candidates will work closely with FirstEnergy’s network teams and business units to deliver data networking, transport, and communications solutions for business and operational purposes that help achieve FE’s business goals.

 

This position will provide support for the architecture, engineering, design, implementation, operation, maintenance, regulatory compliance, and ongoing reliability of Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Field Area Network (FAN), and supporting communications systems.  This includes a multitude of wired and wireless systems that comprise the FE communications architecture.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Participation in a degree program focused on Computer Networking, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, or related field
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
  • General understanding of LAN/WAN topology (routers, switches, Ethernet, wireless, firewalls, etc.), including diagnostic procedures and tools
  • Background and experience with personal computer hardware, operating systems and application software (office productivity tools) is essential.
     
    PREFERRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED) PRIOR KNOWLEDGE and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Wireless transport hardware and systems such as digital microwave, radio, WiMax, CDMA, etc.
  • Network routing & switching hardware and systems
  • Network design, engineering, and drawing management tools
  • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Internet, firewalls, security, and Internet tools
  • Environmental support systems for the technology platforms (e.g., HVAC, AC/DC power systems, batteries, generators, etc.)
  • Project management concepts and tools
     

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Participate on of the network teams supporting the many technology platforms delivering voice, video, data, electrical network monitoring & control, and computing services to FE employees, contractors, and business partners.
  • Ensure high level of reliability and availability of these systems.
  • As part of the Network Engineering & Operations department, work across FirstEnergy to ensure that communications solutions meet business needs and objectives.
  • Ensure that all procedures are followed properly (e.g. change management, testing, documentation, etc.).
