About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [SC00].

 

As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and perform professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies.

 

As an IT Planning Analyst Intern at FirstEnergy, you will be on the IT Planning team who is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the overall IT budget. At roughly $200M annual spend, the IT Planning Analysts help process month-end entries and analyze spend data to provide to the leadership team. An IT Planning Analyst helps the entire IT department stay on plan, and on budget.

 

The current opening will focus primarily on processing month-end accruals and journal entries, as well as working on our long-term plan. There will be a significant amount of work within excel and running queries to analyze historical and future financial data.  This person will gain experience with data visualization tools and should enjoy using Microsoft Excel to manipulate and interpret data.

 

This position is unique as it is cross-functional across all departments within IT. It is a financial role, within the IT department.

 

This position is for someone who enjoys helping people, analyzing data and answering questions.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist in the IT forecasting, budgeting and variance analysis reporting process.
  • Extract and manipulate data using various tools and systems.
  • Update systems with appropriate budget and forecasting data.
  • Learn components of planning and reporting processes including analyzing data, interpreting results and assisting clients with reporting of information.
  • Contribute in improving current work processes.
  • Assist with various ad-hoc reporting requests.
  • Learn how technology supports various business processes and disciplines.
  • Collaborate with other departments of IT, to complete projects.
  • Deliver effective client support through the investigation of client issues.

 Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Accounting, Business or Finance.
  • Must have a graduation date no earlier than December 2021 and no later than December 2022 (Graduation date MUST be listed on resume)
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
  • Analytical skills to define and resolve problems and think creatively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to make formal presentations to various audiences.
  • Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects, with the aptitude to learn quickly.
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment with remote colleagues utilizing virtual technologies.
  • Sound understanding of Microsoft Office line of products, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet schedules.
  • Able to work in a team environment with a constant focus on safety.
  • Highly motivated to work independently and productively, with an aptitude to learn quickly.
  • Additional Coursework in the Computer Science discipline is highly preferred.
