The Information Technology (IT) Recruiter provides full cycle recruiting and consulting to FirstEnergy’s hiring managers in all areas of the Information Technology organization. The recruiter develops and deploys creative sourcing strategies, leverages and applies existing strong skills in diversity sourcing, passive recruiting, and engaging candidates for both executive and technical positions, in addition to other openings as assigned.


Responsibilities include:


  • Holding strategic consultation meetings with hiring managers and developing job postings based on the responsibilities and qualification requirements of open positions.
  • Posting positions on FirstEnergy’s internal and external career websites, as well as other relevant third-party job boards.
  • Creating and executing candidate sourcing strategies, including sourcing passive candidates and leveraging skills for sourcing diverse candidates.
  • Partnering with subject matter experts in the Information Technology business unit to develop a working knowledge of open positions across FirstEnergy, including those in the areas of Information Technology (IT), digital transformation and engineering.
  • Partnering with various niche and community groups, as well as internal stakeholders such as Employee Business Resource Groups (EBRGs), Community Involvement and External Affairs, to increase the diversity of candidate slates provided to hiring managers.
  • Reviewing resumes and credentials for appropriateness of skills, experience, education, and knowledge in relation to position requirements.
  • Developing job specific pre-screening questions in conjunction with hiring manager’s requirements.
  • Utilizing the SuccessFactors “Staff My Organization (SMO)” Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to manage the recruiting process, capture candidate data and disposition candidates.
  • Conducting phone screens, interviews, and employee benefit overviews.
  • Ensuring the recruiting process is compliant with State and Federal employment laws.
  • Developing and maintaining a network of contacts to help identify and source qualified candidates, especially in the diversity arenas to strengthen our sourcing approach in this key area.
  • Creating and fostering relationships with diverse industry professionals and organizations to attract candidates to meet Affirmative Action and diversity goals.
  • Supporting the College Recruiting team and the company’s military recruiting efforts by participating in events as needed.
  • Serving as the company’s main point of contact for external employment candidates from the point of initial screening through their ultimate disposition, including up to the point of hire.
  • Providing complete and accurate information to motivate candidates and promote the FirstEnergy values, strengths, behaviors, and opportunities.
  • Extending job offers to candidates and handling the negotiation of salary and benefit terms.
  • Proactively identifying and recommending opportunities for continuous process improvements.
  • Providing ongoing feedback to management regarding successes and opportunities, as well as the market in regard to IT skill sets.
  • Coaching peers on strengthening/learning new skills in the sourcing arena – specifically for diversity sourcing and creative sourcing strategies.




  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline and a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience is required. 
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree (preferred), a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience is required.  Relevant experience includes prior experience in Human Resources, Recruiting, Talent Acquisition, Candidate Sourcing, and/or College Recruiting.
  • Prior full-cycle IT recruiting experience for exempt, professional-level positions highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated capabilities for successfully sourcing diverse slates of candidates is preferred.
  • Experience using creative sourcing strategies and resume mining.
  • Strong organizational and follow up skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Outstanding negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Sound interviewing, organizational, public relations, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems.  Prior experience with the SuccessFactors and/or Oracle ATS preferred.
  • Excellent presentation skills to highlight FirstEnergy values, mission, strengths, and opportunities.
  • Broad knowledge of Employment Laws and HR Policies.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills.
  • Must possess strong team building skills and be a positive contributor in a team environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and internet research.  Knowledge of SAP highly preferred.
  • Able to work independently with a high level of professionalism and motivation.
  • Able to multi-task and maintain composure in a high-volume, fast paced environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage strong relationships with a broad range of individuals at various levels of the organization.
  • Available to work before and after standard office hours as work requires.
  • Able to travel to attend career events and conferences when necessary.
