About the Opportunity

 

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. 

 

This position can be located in Akron OH, Greensburg PA or Reading PA with regular travel to Akron, OH required.

 

Responsibilities Include:

The IT Analytics & Integration team within FirstEnergy is responsible for the design, development and support of Data Warehousing / Data Lake and application ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) solutions.  We seek an individual to work as an Informatica PowerCenter 10.x developer, using their solid analytical and technical development skills.  The developer will deliver data solutions that will be used in interfaces or reporting applications. 

 

Activities typically include:

1.  Participate in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of various ETL solutions

  • Requirements Analysis: Work directly with the business to collect requirements and develop quality functional specifications.
  • Design:  Design ETL solutions that will be used to meet business requirements, taking into account performance.  If the requirements were developed by a Data Modeler, design the solution per their guidance. 
  • Construction: Create and maintain ETL solutions sourcing data from applications with Oracle and MS SQL databases.  Additional sources may include SAP and outside Cloud vendor solutions.
  • Test:  Develop and execute detailed unit test plans. Work with and lead the business customers during user acceptance.
  • Implement and Manage Change: Follow FirstEnergy’s IT Change processes to implement development products.

 

2.  Provide production support for the PowerCenter ETL processes

Provide high level development and testing time estimates on the effort required to complete work requests.

  • Investigate and resolve problems reported in various PowerCenter ETL processes; Respond to calls that come into the Help Desk and support customers.
  • Monitor nightly PowerCenter ETL processes and loading processes as part of the weekly on-call rotation. 
  • Monitor and enhance the performance of the PowerCenter ETL processes as needed.
  • Work flexible hours and be available for call-in and after hours support (7x24 operations).

 

 

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 2 to 7 years experience with building ETL solutions using Informatica PowerCenter 10.x.  This includes Designer and Workflow Manager.
  • Minimum of 2 to 7 years database experience required in Oracle, MS SQL, Teradata or MemSQL.
  • Strong SQL skills and performance tuning experience (necessity due to high-volume source and target systems)
  • Creation, support and tuning of the following artifacts: Complex views (e.g. materialized views), synonyms, indexes, constraints, stored procedures, functions, triggers
  • Minimum of 2 to 7 years experience with building Data Warehouse solutions is required.  This includes Dimensional Data Modeling experience and knowledge of data warehousing concepts.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in a production support environment.  Analytical skills to effectively resolve technical problems, identify and implement process improvements, and think creatively.
  • Must be skilled in both oral and written communications in order to facilitate meetings, capture requirements as well as write documentation, specifications, procedures and process flows.
  • Understanding and willingness to embrace application development standards and processes.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and plan activities, work on multiple concurrent tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects, aptitude to learn quickly.
  • Highly motivated; experience in working independently with a high level of productivity.
  • Proven team player, contributes to team goals, encourages and supports team members.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, and be available for call-in and after hours support if needed.
