About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

 

This position can be located in OH, PA, NJ, MD, or WV with travel as needed.

 

The Manager, Employee Relations & HR Compliance reports to the Director, Labor/Employee Relations & Employee Safety and is responsible for the oversight and management of all employee relations and compliance issues related to the human resources function; ensures human resources policies and procedures are compliant with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, and partners with Legal and the Ethics and Compliance teams to ensure employee compliance to the Company’s employment-related policies.  This position serves as a key contributor to development and maintenance of comprehensive human resources, employee relations, and HR compliance policies and strategies.  This position manages a team of employee relations and HR compliance representatives.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Oversight and management of non-bargaining HR-related employee concerns and issues.
  • Benchmarks employee relations and HR compliance programs and policies, developing sound recommendations for improvements
  • Oversees applicable employee communications
  • Engages in Business Continuity plans and activities related to employees

 

Provides HR Generalist support for Shared Services employees including:

 

  • Acts as a liaison between leaders and employees, managing and resolving HR employee relations issues.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Facilitates and coordinates the investigations of employee concerns regarding HR policy application and other general concerns.  Gathers all pertinent information, prepares documentation, recommends remediation, and maintains frequent communications to applicable parties throughout the process, including the Ethics and Compliance function as appropriate.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to leaders (coaching, counseling, career development, corrective action).
  • Supports performance management program deliverables and reinforces the My Career Map career management process.
  • Assists leaders with developing appropriate performance improvement plans.
  • Understands and conveys FE’s compensation philosophy and provides guidance.  Conducts pay equity reviews and coordinates employee promotions and off-cycle pay increases.
  • Develops / delivers targeted training, as needed.
  • Assists with benefit and health and absence management inquiries.
  • Assists with new hire orientation and administers employee testing.
  • Conducts separation/retirement exit meetings.
  • Identifies and implements legal requirements and government reporting relationships affecting human resources functions (EEO, ADA, and Affirmative Action).
  • Participates in the development of HR related policies, procedures, programs and systems to meet corporate goals and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
  • Manages the process for annual EEO-1's, and Vets 4212 reports.
  • Manages compliance functions including background checks, CIP/RAAD access, poster compliance program, harassment training, and unemployment requests.
  • Advises the business about background checks, I-9's, AAP, employment legislation.
  • Investigates and responds to external charges, as necessary.
  • Analyzes compliance/employment/diversity-related statistics and reports on data collected including responding to internal and external data requests.
  • Supports Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives
  • Consults with business unit leaders on HR compliance practices; recommends and interprets HR compliance policies and processes.
  • Assists with the compilation of various reports and statistics for the company's various compliance programs and initiatives.
     
     

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline and a minimum of 7 years relevant work experience is required.  In lieu of a degree, a high school diploma and a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience is required.
  • Relevant work experience will include prior general business experience and/or broad Human Resources functional knowledge.
  • Knowledge of employee relations, ethics, compliance, or work as an HR generalist with an understanding of the connections between functional areas within HR.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills, in addition to experience preparing and delivering group presentations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; self-directed and detail-oriented to effectively oversee multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within specified time frames.
  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making, and follow through on commitments to achieve deliverables.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop relationships with a broad range of individuals both internally and externally.
  • Ability to effectively organize, manage and prioritize multiple work assignments and projects and deliver desired results.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint.)
