About the Opportunity

The position is within the Ethics & Compliance group and reports to the VP and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer. It can be in OH, PA, NJ, MD, or WV, with travel as needed.

 

The Ethics & Compliance (E&C) Assurance Manager will be responsible for leading the team that manages risk assessments and assurance activities for E&C.  Responsibilities include establishing and managing the risk assessment framework and working collaboratively with other FirstEnergy teams responsible for various assurance activities to ensure a coordinated enterprise-wide approach.  This role will also be responsible for identifying and managing E&C-related risks. 

 

The Ethics & Compliance (E&C) group works to strengthen the company’s ethics and compliance profile for FirstEnergy’s operating companies. The team interacts with various functions to promote trust and respect, manage ethics and compliance risks, promote ethical business conduct, develop policies, procedures, and controls, and manage complaints and concerns.  The team also performs risk assessments, conducts investigations, coordinates training, and manages ethics and compliance communications. This position will be expected to interact with all levels of the organization and lead a team of Compliance Specialists focused on risk assessments, practices & procedures, and surveys & reporting dashboards. 

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Providing day-to-day leadership for Ethics & Compliance Assurance initiatives and continuous improvement, such as compliance and ethics officer dashboard, risk assessment, employee surveys
  • Overseeing the development and build-out of the Ethics & Compliance Assurance program
  • Overseeing the build-out of Assurance policies and procedures
  • Planning, delegating, and overseeing the execution of timely and robust risk assessments
  • Managing the Assurance team to create and maintain policy, procedure, and controls documentation
  • Managing the Assurance team to conduct periodic surveys and produce reporting dashboards
  • Coordinating with business units to identify and document key processes, risks, and controls
  • Evaluating the scope and testing approach of key controls to ensure they are fit for purpose and in accordance with established departmental standards 
  • Leading testing and monitoring of key controls, along with thematic reviews in accordance 
  • with the Ethics & Compliance program focus areas
  • Communicating relevant review findings to business unit management
  • Working with Legal and other functions to monitor, review, and analyze gaps between laws, rules, and regulations and existing policies and procedures to make recommendations for gap closure
  • Validating completion of required regulatory activities for applicable rule-making entities
  • Drafting and delivering regular status reports to leadership

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or related discipline is required.
  • Minimum ten years relevant work experience in roles of increasing responsibility is required. Relevant work experience includes work in ethic & compliance, internal audit, risk or similar functions.
  • Minimum of five years of work experience in ethics & compliance within the Utilities or Electricity sectors.
  • Able to develop and implement process improvements and efficiencies to improve work processes
  • Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills
  • High degree of proficiency in organization, planning, and project management
  • Able to build relationships and credibility across the organization
  • Pragmatic with strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage a team, delegate tasks, and provide guidance to team members
  • Analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to proactively identify complex challenges or roadblocks and make results-driven recommendations
  • Travel to Akron will be required if selected candidate is located outside of Akron
