This is an open position with FirstEnergy Solutions (FES), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [FES]

 

Position Summary:

The Manager of Accounting Operations is a key member of the controller's leadership team that will work closely with the corporate controller and peers to ensure the Company's policies and procedures are adhered to and applied consistently across the business.  This individual will be responsible for managing the accounting department and oversee the monthly close process ensuring all necessary activity is recorded and the books are closed on a timely basis.  They will develop and maintain accounting policies, best practices and systems to collect, analyze and report information across the company.  This individual will also be responsible for managing methods and processes utilized to capture, track, and allocate corporate and shared services costs to facilitate the effective management and control of cash costs.  They will play a key role in the preparation of monthly financial statement analysis, annual budgets, financial strategy and forecasting.  They will assist the corporate controller in managing the external audit process.   

 

The posistion is located at the West Akron Campus (WAC) in Akron, Ohio.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for all activities of the corporate accounting group, including oversight of the financial statement close process
  • Follow and comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Maintain effective system of internal controls over financial reporting, including procedures to ensure complete and accurate external and management financial reporting
  • Implement processes and manage key efforts to achieve SEC reporting readiness
  • Play a key role in system and process design, training and go-forward system administration
  • Maintain policy and procedure documentation, including the identification and implementation of on-going process improvements
  • Serve as a trusted business advisor to management on key financial issues, financial performance, and strategy execution
  • Responsible for the application of company policies and ensuring all financial transactions are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Collaborate with other members of management to develop and deliver relevant financial data analytics
  • Interpret complex financial information, document the Company's position and communicate findings to management and executive team
  • Support development of the annual business plan

  

Requirements:

  •  Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Minimum 7 years work experience of recent relevant financial experience required
  • Experience managing shared-service accounting functions, developing cost allocation methods, and centralizing accounting and reporting tasks preferred, but not required
  • "Big Four" or public accounting experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including the ability to research complex transactions and assess the impact on the Company
  • Financial reporting experience, including familiarity with Securities and Exchange Rules and Regulations
  • CPA preferred, but not required
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of enterprise resource planning systems.  Experience with SAP preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrates advanced functionality of common office environment, functional applications and relevant business applications
  • Demonstrates project management skills and awareness of financial performance metrics
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge in aspects of finance and accounting, internal controls and risk mitigation, company policy, financial analysis, forecasting, and financial applications of varying complexity, as well as performance management and advanced levels of proficiency with industry and company acumen
