About the Opportunity


This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

This position will focus on analysis, policy development and preparation of supporting background materials for successful advocacy of corporate energy policy positions within PJM and state and federal regulatory agencies. Includes development of supporting analysis to drive policy positions that are aligned with corporate business strategies and supporting coordination of efforts for proactive advocacy. Examples include assisting in coordination of policy considerations with subject matter experts, development of messaging materials and talking points for leadership or other internal stakeholders, preparing supporting analytics around key issues, drafting or providing feedback on filed comments and participating in discussions with external stakeholders to discuss FERC, PJM and other energy policy related activities. Accomplishment of objective requires competency to review complex proposals (regulations and various industry proposals/positions) to develop positions based on the best interest of FE.  Candidates must be able to effectively summarize and communicate complex information to diverse stakeholders and have strong relationship building skills. 

 

This position is expected to regularly interact with internal and external business unit subject matter experts as well as rates, legal, and technical experts. Presentations will occasionally be made to and for senior management.

 

The position reports to the Director, Policy & Support and is located at the General Office in Akron, Ohio.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Effectively understanding and analyzing energy policy issues to support development of corporate policy position
  • Technically contributing to discussions with business unit experts (internal and external)
  • Preparing analytics in support of policy positions
  • Supporting advocacy efforts and regulatory filings and reporting
  • Educating and directing others on technical subject matters, improving process effectiveness, and making significant contributions to the achievement of element goals and objectives
  • Leading diverse projects / processes / programs
  • Some travel, once resumed per corporate guidelines, will be necessary
  • Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirements
  • Independently, consistently anticipating and meeting internal/external customer needs and delivering results
  • Developing high-level solutions for complex assignments

Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or related discipline required
  • Minimum 10 years relevant work experience required. Relevant work experience will include Solid knowledge of the energy industry and basic understanding of corporate cash flow and earnings impacts including key influential drivers
  • Viewed as a technical expert in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Proven ability to develop analytics that support regulatory/negotiation positions or testimony
  • Demonstrated quick adaptability to technical subjects
  • Strong results orientation
  • Proven coordination and project management skills
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with others
