About the Opportunity

The FirstEnergy Analytics team supports the hardware and software used for business analytics at FirstEnergy. The team works with FirstEnergy employees to understand their business processes and then guides the use of technology to support them.


An IT Power BI Developer on the Analytics Team is responsible for working with business units and IT to deliver and maintain applications that enable business transformation.  The IT Developer focuses on technical solutions and applications, understanding business processes and translating them into work projects in the form of analytics and dashboards. They will participate in the production support and enhancement lifecycle of FirstEnergy’s Analytics systems. 


Responsibilities Include:

  • Effectively visualize data in reporting applications (Power BI, QlikView, RapidMiner) to provide business value and answer business questions
  • Design and develop reporting application scripts that import data from data marts or transactional systems and unit test the data extractions to verify they meet customer requirements
  • Understand and promote use of tools and applications supported by the Analytics Team.
    • Work with Business developers to enable promote Power BI Governance and self-service analytics across FirstEnergy.
    • Plan and facilitate the Power BI user group monthly meetings
  • Gather the requirements for new reporting projects and provide development estimates
  • Manage projects related to applications and hardware supported by the Analytics team. 
    • Responsibilities include scoping and planning, budget management, status reporting, and coordination of activities between IT teams, business teams and external teams.
    • Complete a bi-weekly scorecard and financial report for the project and report project status to IT Leadership and members of the IT Project Management Office. 
    • Manage work assignments given to internal and external developers to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Create and execute comprehensive unit and integration test plans.
  • Investigate and resolve problems with reporting applications in a production support environment including responding to problem tickets 24/7.
  • Adhere to IT Sarbanes-Oxley (SOx) Controls and CIP regulations.

An employee hired at the level IV will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency and in a more independent manner. They will be required to develop and deliver dashboards for high visibility projects that implement solutions to more complex issues or systems.


Qualifications at the Level III include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business, Computer Science, or related degree with 4 years related experience.  In lieu of a degree, consideration given to non-degree candidates with 6 years equivalent hands on experience.
      • Related experience includes experience as a Developer, Business Analyst or experience in a related analysis field
  • Demonstrated driver of solutions with proven ability to collaborate with others to achieve the objectives of an assignment or project
  • Understanding and willingness to embrace IT application development standards and processes
  • Knowledge of project management concepts and tools
  • Experience facilitating meetings in support of your project
  • Willingness and propensity for continual growth, willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects, ability to adapt and change quickly
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications, and presentation skills 
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and plan work on multiple concurrent tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve non-routine problems with little or no guidance
  • Aptitude to learn quickly
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to think creatively
  • Work effectively in a virtual team environment
  • Highly motivated; ability to work independently with a high level of productivity.
  • Comfortable with using standard FE computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams with an aptitude for using these technologies to accomplish work assignments


Qualifications at the Level IV includes all the above plus:

  • A Bachelor Degree with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience which include developing reporting applications. In lieu of a degree, 9 years of experience required.
  • Working knowledge of project management processes and tools


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Managed multiple stages of projects including, but not limited to, initiating a business case or project charter, creating work plans and resources plans, identifying risks, defining, and implementing change management, managing costs.
  • Experience managing resources assigned to complete tasks on a project
  • Experience or knowledge of IT processes, applications and systems
