About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [SC00]


 The position is within the FE Innovation Center and reports to the Manager, Automation. It can be located in OH, PA, NJ, MD, or WV, with travel as needed.


This position is responsible for assessing business processes to determine suitability for automation, creating documentation and liaising with Business Units to ensure no gaps in the automation solution that accurately solves the business need. The individual should have a deep passion for innovation.


There are two openings.


Responsibilities include:

  • Supports process design of use cases identified for automation
  • Collaborate with BUs to identify opportunities to ensure continuous pipeline for the Automation program.
  • Educate BUs on RPA and potential uses of automation, industry use cases and discovery frameworks to assist in determining candidates, supporting the automation pipeline
  • Establish and maintain process assessment standards
  • Collect informaton that helps determine the feasibility of RPA
  • Identify processes, steps in a process, or other opportunities that would benefit from RPA
  • Estimate the effort and benefits to apply RPA, participate in value realization efforts
  • Assess and catalogue each automation opportunity and collect necessary process data
  • Develop detailed process documentation required for RPA development
  • Assist with development of training documentation and delivery of training to end users (change management)
  • Identify and engage the SMEs that are needed to particiapte during RPA development
  • Identify the test data that will be needed during RPA development and ensure the necessary environments are available
  • Support System Integration Testing, and facilitate User Acceptance Testing with testers and process SMRs
  • Identify RPA projects for compliance assessment and establish an assessment schedule
  • Review RPA deliverables for adherence to the RPA control framework and standards
  • Serve as central point of communication between RPA modeling team and business process SMEs
  • Work with RPA modelers in the collection and documentation of solution design requirements, as needed





  • Two to four year degree in a related discipline preferred, with minimum 4 years relevant work experience required.  In lieu of degree, High School diploma or GED required with minimum 7 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include experience in assessing business processes.
  • More than 1year experience in business analysis, scoping business requirements, identifying scope change and system impacts (including external systems) preferred
  • More than1 year experience in documenting requirements using use cases, entity relationship diagrams, process decomposition diagrams and workflows preferred
  • Experience identifying, assessing, and documenting processes for automation / RPA a plus
  • Experience with automation and RPA platforms a plus, Automation Anywhere preferred
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to learn, grow and work across FirstEnergy and deliver results
  • Experience providing customer-focused support, both internally and externally
  • Experience in building positive relationships and working with peers cross-functionally, demonstrating teamwork and collaboration
  • Ability to appropriately manage conflict and work through difficult situations as needed
  • Willingness to travel throughout organization and service territory and work extended hours, as required
  • Utility specific experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present non-technical details to a technical audience
  •  Over 2 years experience in business analysis, scoping business requirements, identifying scope change and system impacts (including external systems)
  • Over 2 years experience in documenting requirements using use cases, entity relationship diagrams, process decomposition diagrams and workflows
  • More than 1 year experience identifying, assessing, and documenting processes for automation / RPA
  • More than 1 year experience with automation and RPA platforms, Automation Anywhere preferred
