Regulated Commodity Sourcing is an innovative team that manages regulated power supply and renewable energy credits, and creates value added tools and products for the benefit of our customers and shareholders while supporting and enriching our communities.

 

The position is in either the Pottsville Pike Building in Reading, Pennsylvania or the West Akron Campus in Fairlawn, Ohio.

 

Senior Business Analysts, in Regulated Commodity Sourcing (RCS), daily activities include:

 

  • Leading projects in RCS that create value added tools and products
  • Developing the Locational Marginal Price (LMP) and territorial load forecasts for FirstEnergy Utilities (FEU) using Nostradamus (an artificial neural network) forecasting tool, and performing Nostradamus model maintenance and improvements
  • Overseeing and analyzing wholesale budget and financial forecasting data for FEU, and comparison of deviations between forecasted and actual data
  • Conducting in-depth strategic research and analyzing data; interpreting results; providing solutions
  • Managing renewable activity including development of position tracking reports, performing or supporting the associated billing and invoicing processes for FEU, and tracking and retiring Renewable Energy Credit (REC) transactions, consistent with state renewable portfolio standard requirements.
  • Supporting on-time completion of FEU procurement activities in accordance with the respective solicitation calendars, including tracking and documentation
  • Performing required updates to the FEU Utility Power and Renewable Procurement web sites
  • Handling all JCP&L Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) program activities including interface with PJM and coordination with customers for all aspects of SREC administration
  • Completing in a timely and accurate manner, the FEU Renewable Energy compliance process and data
  • Responding to data requests from internal and external parties for various default service, renewable energy, rate recovery and other regulatory proceedings on behalf of RCS
  • Creating, maintaining and populating various databases required for RCS business processes
  • Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirements
  • Adhering to all FirstEnergy risk policy and control requirements, all state and federal code-of-conduct standards, and all FirstEnergy Standard of Conduct and Code of Conduct policies
  • Providing a high level of customer service, continuous support, and proactive involvement to leadership and peers
  • Actively seeking ways to build challenge and add value within scope of assignments
  • Active in development of department policies and procedures
  • Educate and direct others on technical subject matters, improve programs and process effectiveness, and make significant contributions to the achievement of goals and objectives
  • Integrate strategic concepts into business unit activities; Provide strategic direction across Department
  • Develop high-level solution for complex assignments
  • Serve as a “thought leader” and technical resource for less tenured employees
  • Promote a sense of urgency in the team for reaching goals and meeting deadlines

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or related discipline is strongly preferred with minimum 10 years relevant work experience required.  In lieu of degree, 13 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include load forecasting, power or renewable energy credit procurements, or data analytics in the power markets. Advanced degree is a plus (MBA, Statistics, Analytics, Economics)
  • Statistical analysis/load forecasting experience preferred
  • Ability to conduct research independently and analyze data; interpret results; assist in implementation activities
  • Superior analytical abilities
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; Ability to formally present complex subject matter to all levels of management
  • Ability to contribute to solutions by taking an initiative to developing alternatives and recommendations
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Viewed as a technical expert in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, and other business-unit specific applications.  SAP, Qlikview, RapidMiner or SAS a plus
  • Ability to lead by example
  • Ability to recommend and implement solutions to moderately complex issues and assignments
  • Ability to develop process improvements and efficiencies to improve work processes
  • Highly driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic person capable of leading others
