About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.[FEU]

The position reports to the Manager, Reporting in Akron, OH and can be sited at any FE location within the service territory.   


This position provides analytical, technical, and project management support of systems used to produce information demonstrating compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements for energy efficiency and peak demand reduction activities across all FirstEnergy operating companies. Key areas of responsibility include: development and maintenance of the Company’s externally-hosted Energy Efficiency Tracking & Reporting (T&R) system, managing projects for system integration activities of various EE vendors into the T&R system, supporting transfers, integrity, and accuracy of data that are used for regulatory filings and internal management updates, formulating responses to internal and external data requests, and ad hoc analysis of system data. This position will interact with company personnel in various departments, energy efficiency professionals, company vendors, regulatory agencies and management.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Work in conjunction with the T&R system lead, to develop and manage projects that establish data integrations between the Company’s T&R system and vendors conducting Energy Efficiency programs on the Company’s behalf 

  • Lead weekly maintenance meetings with internal FE and various external resources to ensure maintenance and data quality of T&R system transfers 

  • Develop reporting capabilities of the T&R system and planning for future system improvements to enhance department effectiveness and timely access to information 

  • Interact with and coordinating the activities of the Companies’ third-party T&R system vendor. 

  • Develop quality assurance processes to monitor T&R system data and ensure alignment to standards established by evaluator partners and PJM data qualifications 

  • Support integration and development of statewide data exchange platforms transferring cost, savings, and other efficiency project information between partnering utilities 

  • Ensure accurate and complete data records that support the creation and filing of internal reporting and required regulatory reports according to state requirements 

  • Refine internal processes to support data extraction for creation of monthly Energy Efficiency Status Reporting (EESR) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) reporting packages 

  • Provide input and reviewing EE Vendor RFPs to ensure proposals align with IT security standards, EE department policies, and data standards 

  • Assist T&R system lead in managing the T&R system vendor, contracting, budgeting/accrual creation, and review of invoices for proper charges and billing rates 

  • Develop and manage internal processes required to complete regulatory/PJM reporting including data collection, scheduling and report creation 

  • Institute reviews of new reports to align reporting standards and governance across all jurisdictions for consistency and standardization 

  • Leveraging and/or developing GIS tools to show Energy Efficiency portfolio adoption and customer equity reporting 

  • Develop processes to ensure claimed savings are consistent with each states Technical Reference Manual (TRM) or evaluation standards 

  • Leverage subject matter expertise of T&R system design, capabilities and underlying state-specific data structure to inform departmental strategic decisions or system enhancements 

  • Respond to data request from external agencies (Public Utilities Commissions, Statewide Evaluators, etc.), company contractors and vendors or internal stakeholder groups (rates, load forecasting) 

  • Execute and enhance standardized reports, benchmarking actual performance against approved FirstEnergy energy efficiency plans/forecasts and peer utility results 



Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Technology or a related discipline preferred with minimum 7 years relevant work experience required.  In lieu of degree, 10 years relevant work experience required.  Advanced degree and/or professional certification preferred. Related work may include experience in project management, regulatory/financial/performance reporting tools, data exchanges, regulatory interactions, or system development/oversight preferred 

  • Strong knowledge or proven ability to quickly learn energy efficiency fundamentals, reporting process, and Commission requirements in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey. 

  • Ability to convert data into actionable information 

  • Strong analytical and written communication skills to support departmental reports and responses to data requests. 

  • Strong verbal communication skills to provide management updates and discuss status of energy efficiency programs. 

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint); Excel knowledge must include the ability to understand data flows across systems and support conversion to new applications. 

  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MS ACCESS, ARCGIS) or database querying tools (E.g. TOAD) a strong plus 

  • Ability to support the work of others and execute as part of a functioning team, educate others on the process, and report out to high-level management on status and issues. 

  • Ability to work in tight time frames and support a process with changing requirements that leverages best practices and strong analytical skills. 

  • Ability to interact with IT system personnel and translate overall understanding of energy efficiency programs, measures and costs, or proven ability to learn this quickly. 

  • Proponent for continuous improvement. 

  • Supporting Energy Efficiency program operations to further customer engagement and loyalty, and promote Environmental, Social & Governance objectives  

  • Ability to travel to office locations is required when such travel is approved by the Company. Approximately 5-10% of time spent in day trips to FirstEnergy work locations. 

  • Must have the ability to make independent sound decisions, with limited supervision, by evaluating options with consideration for implications and consequences. 

  • Manages, develops and provides oversight of diverse projects/processes/programs. 

  • Ability to conduct strategic research, analyze data and utilize results to implement solutions. 

  • Ability to lead by example, educate and direct others on technical subject matters, improve programs and process effectiveness, and make significant contributions to the achievement of goals and objectives. 

  • Expected to perform all of the above responsibilities while helping to drive strategy and setting direction for the business unit.
