Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities


The Reliability Standards Supervisor is responsible for creating, maintaining, and enforcing information technology compliance with NERC CIP and NERC 693 reliability standards. The Reliability Standards supervisor leads a team of standard and disaster recovery analysts to prepare documents, evidence, and provide guidance to the information technology organization on NERC CIP and NERC 693 standard. This position collaborates with Cyber Security, Information Technology, Transmission, Physical Security, Generation, NERC Compliance, Internal Audit, and external regulatory organizations frequently to prioritize, schedule, and complete compliance work requests.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee Information Technology compliance program to support NERC CIP and NERC 693 reliability standards
  • Lead the preparation and maintenance of FE compliance policies, programs, procedures, evidence, and guidelines related to the NERC CIP and NERC 693 standards to demonstrate compliance
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for compliance procedural and processing requirements and conduct associated internal training
  • Responsible for ensuring CIP and corporate IT disaster recovery plans are documented and regularly updated to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.   
  • Maintains a high-level of technical knowledge to support compliance standards by attending webinars, conferences, and workshops; reviewing professional publications and research; and establishing personal networks.
  • Preparing for, coordinating, and supporting self-certifications, data submittals, and compliance audits
  • Preparing for, performing, and supporting internal compliance controls
  • Lead compliance investigations and documenting root cause analysis
  • Support IT and Transmission change control to ensure compliance throughout the organization
  • Monitoring, assigning, and coordinating IT compliance/reliability actions tracked in the CATSWeb application.
  • Ability to devise and implement automated processes wherever possible, implementing controls when automation is not feasible.
  • Works across all IT, Transmission, Cyber Security, Physical Security, Generation, and NERC Compliance teams to prioritize and schedule compliance work requests.
  • IT liaison to upper management and other internal business organizations on multiple compliance regulations and requirements.
  • Provide input on required staffing, software, hardware to support compliance efforts

  • Exhibit decision making maturity by assessing multiple factors to determine priority and by understanding when incoming requests require urgency or compromise.
  • Mentor and motivate a diverse team that scales and evolves with business and policy needs.
  • Responsible for managing staff performance by setting objectives, tracking performance, and providing feedback.
  • Assists in the personal growth of staff through individual development plans, mentoring, coaching and stretch job assignments.
  • Staff projects by aligning internal resources and timetables with business plans. Selects and hires consultants to address internal labor project shortages/gaps.


Qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of IT and/or cyber security experience preferred.
  • Audit experience (as auditor or subject matter expert) preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience with NERC CIP and NERC 693 standards preferred.
  • Familiarity with relevant utility operations (transmission, distribution, generation) preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in IT and/or cyber security encompassing strategies, policies, principles, procedures, and standards.
  • Strong leadership, excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, communication, training skills, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management throughout the organization.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently on a regular basis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information.
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement techniques.
  • Experience with the effective use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
