About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [SC00]



The position will report to Manager, Tax Accounting and is located at the General Office in Akron, Ohio.  It will have primary responsibility for:


  • Monthly and quarterly financial reporting of taxes, including journal entries and account reconciliations for income taxes, sales & use taxes, gross receipts taxes, and property taxes; 
  • Computing and analyzing items impacting effective tax rate;
  • Documenting tax controls and processes to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX);
  • Supporting multiple financial forecasts by estimating temporary and permanent book-tax differences impacting consolidated taxable income and effective tax rate;
  • Preparing federal and state income tax returns in various jurisdictions as needed;
  • Reviewing general accounting memos and providing corresponding tax accounting analysis
  • Participating in special projects in the Tax department, or representing the Tax department on cross-functional teams within the Controller’s group 
  • Providing outstanding service and responsiveness to internal stakeholders

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting , Finance, Business Administration or related discipline required.  Master’s degree in taxation preferred
  • Minimum 2 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include general experience in public accounting firm and/or corporate tax or accounting department preferred.
  • Demonstrated significant prior tax experience   
  • Experience with ASC 740 income tax accounting principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Tax return preparation experience preferred
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication skills; able to contribute as a member of cross-functional teams both within the Tax Department and across other areas of the company
