About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [SC00]



The position will report to Manager, Tax Accounting and is located at the Corporate Office in Akron, Ohio. 


Responsibilities include:

  • Monthly and quarterly financial reporting of taxes, including journal entries and account reconciliations for income taxes, sales & use taxes, gross receipts taxes, and property taxes 
  • Computing and analyzing items impacting effective tax rate
  • Assisting in documenting tax controls and processes to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
  • Supporting multiple financial forecasts by estimating temporary and permanent book-tax differences impacting consolidated taxable income, the effective tax rate, and cash taxes
  • Preparing federal and state income tax returns in various jurisdictions as needed
  • Participating in special projects in the Tax department or across the Controller’s group 
  • Providing outstanding service and responsiveness to internal stakeholders

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
  • Minimum 0-4 years’ relevant work experience is required.  Relevant work experience includes experience working in public accounting firm, corporate tax department or accounting department
  • Some tax research experience preferred
  • Introductory knowledge of ASC 740 income tax accounting principles
  • Tax return preparation experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication skills, able to contribute as a member of cross-functional teams both within the Tax Department and across other areas of the company, and interact with external or internal auditors as needed
