About the Opportunity

This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]

 

The Tax Analyst will report to Manager, State & Local Tax. This position is considered "mobile" but will be based out of the Akron, OH location with travel into the office as needed.

 

Responsibilities Include:
 

  • Preparing, filing, and providing support for a variety of state & local tax returns, including income tax, gross receipts tax, franchise tax, property tax, and sales & use tax.
  • Preparation and filing of forms 1099 and 1042, including review of vendor data, issuing forms, and completing IRS filings.
  • Tax accounting monthly, including posting journal entries, performing account analysis, and completing account reconciliations. 
  • Assisting in preparing responses to tax auditor requests and drafting memos or petitions to defend tax return positions and/or to initiate appeals of proposed tax assessments.
  • Conducting tax research to support tax return positions
  • Participating on special project teams in the Tax department or across the Controller’s group
  • Providing outstanding service and responsiveness to internal stakeholders

Qualifications include:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include experience doing tax compliance and accounting for public accounting firm, tax consulting firm, or corporate tax department
  • Some Tax research experience preferred
  • Experience with CorpTax or other tax compliance software preferred
  • Demonstrated Excel spreadsheet skills and general computer systems capabilities
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication skills; able to contribute as a member of cross-functional teams both within the Tax Department and across other areas of the company, and interact with external tax auditors as needed
