The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need.  This option is not available in the states of California, Colorado, Illinois or New York at this time.


What you’ll do:

As part of the larger IT Distribution Systems team the Field Mobility Technical Architect owns and communicates the architectural vision for mobilizing the field force for FirstEnergy Utilities focused on mobile communication, hardware and supporting software.  The architect will work directly with the IT Field Mobility and across IT Infrastructure teams to implement and support the next generation mobile work management platform – 2500 devices across five states - for FirstEnergy Utilities.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive innovation:
    • Act as digital lead for expanded/next generation mobile enablement of FEU for IT
    • Refresh & maintain field mobile hardware and communication standards
    • Build strong collaborative between the IT and FEU Field Mobility organization
    • Develop strategic relationships with technology vendors and external communities/partners
    • Benchmark mobile capabilities at FirstEnergy with industry peers


  • Manage work:
    • Drive the initiation, monitoring, implementation, and completion of IT work
    • Engage in procurement and rollover strategy for equipment
    • Coordinate with team resources to schedule, assign and execute work in order of priority
    • Develop quarterly plans and estimates for work to be accomplished, monitor progress and quality, and report on status of work.
    • Assure that adequate documentation of systems is maintained including Disaster Recovery
    • Access risk, provide options, and define impacts of options on all work


  • Maintain systems control:
    • Strive for Field mobility operational excellence
    • Ensure processes & solutions meet or exceed IT standards
    • Implement mobile network performance and monitoring tools
    • Expand on-premise networking capabilities for mobile computing
    • Drive continuous improvement with IT Infrastructure teams


An employee hired at the Architect IV level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner.  Further, the Architect IV level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those listed above.


Qualifications at the Level III include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, a related degree, with 5 years related experience required. In lieu of a degree, 7 years of related experience required.
  • Related Experience includes, but is not limited to, working knowledge of:
    • Working within a diverse team environment configuring and/or developing complex IT solutions
    • Supporting Windows OS, Active Directory, certificate management, profile management
    • Building and supporting secure mobile environments – Cisco VPN, Netmotion Mobility, or cloud
    • Applying an application development methodology and/or agile software delivery methods for delivery of IT solutions
    • Applying IT processes - change management, release management, risk management, and Cyber Security policies and procedures
    • Applying project management principles and methodologies
  • Strong analytical, decision making, and planning skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and be available for call in and after-hours work
  • Strong interpersonal, communications, presentation, training & mentoring skills


Qualifications at the Level IV include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, a related degree, with 7 years related experience required. In lieu of a degree, 9 years of related experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant work experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the mobile environments & deployment – Windows and iOS
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of business processes supported by the FEU Dx Support organization, ideally Work Management - CREWS, Syclo
  • Strong Windows operating systems knowledge, Active Directory, PowerShell, and advanced connectivity/network settings
