The Manager, Materials Management oversees resources and activities for purchasing inventoried material, material forecasting and planning, service levels, emergency material needs, inventory levels and turnover for operations at three FirstEnergy distribution centers. This position manages cost effective utilization of materials and supplies to establish the appropriate balance with service levels; monitors employees and enforces conformance to established work practices, rules, and procedures.
The Manager, Materials Management can be sited at any location within the FirstEnergy service territory (OH, WV, MD, PA & NJ).
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing activities at three distribution centers which may result in some travel.
- Responsible for responding to and providing data to regulatory requests.
- Enforcing all FirstEnergy safety standards and guidelines and ensuring these are met by all personnel by maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
- Optimizing customer service levels, direct inventory target development, and maximizing inventory turn rates without jeopardizing operational requirements.
- Monitoring inventory levels, forecast accuracy, receipts and movements of all materials and adjusting plans.
- Driving targets and maintaining adequate inventory levels to support material requirements in their territory.
- Developing and monitoring inventory control systems to predict shortfalls and ensuring adequate supply.
- Training, developing, and managing Supervisor workforce to ensure material management activities are done per process and procedures.
- Collaborating with Engineering, Supply Chain and Distribution Center management to ensure efficient processes and interactions with the field.
- Understanding and confirming compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other materials management financial controls.
- Making recommendations for process improvements and cost reductions.
- Reviewing and recommending the disposition of lagging and obsolete material; complying with appropriate accounting guidelines and budgetary constraints.
- Providing evaluation of inventory to identify duplicates and excess stock codes and material available across the three distribution centers
- Being accountable for multimillion-dollar inventory, levels driven by material planning systems and decisions
- Work across multiple departments and disciplines to develop new work practices and processes outside of normal distribution material practices.
- Leading materials management team supporting emergency restoration related to ordering materials supporting material needs in the field, service centers and warehouses.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, business, or related discipline and minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience is required.
- In lieu of degree, a minimum of 10 years' relevant work experience is required. Relevant work experience includes experience in warehousing / materials management, Supply Chain, and project management.
- Strong computer skills, detailed knowledge of SAP processes, materials management, warehouse and storeroom techniques, and safety.
- Previous experience managing department costs and budgets preferred.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with material planning techniques such as Material Resource Planning (MRP) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
- Demonstrated proficiency at planning and scheduling of work; Experience in project management.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting to large groups.
- Pronounced bias for action with demonstrated record of accomplishing goals and driving success in their team.
- Experience with CREWS Work Management system and processes a plus.
- Able to lead a team to achieve company business objects and goals.
