About the Opportunity

 

This is an open position with Cleveland Electric Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [CEI]

 

This job is responsible for supervising the engineering work for the distribution function of the company.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Demonstrates and directs a solid commitment to all aspects of safety, strengthening the commitment to safety throughout Cleveland Electric Co. staff
  • Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of an Engineering team, including Engineers and Analysts who are making decisions guided by policies, procedures and the company's business plan
  • Assumes a leadership role in active participation of the operating company's capital portfolio through close interaction with operations and operations support personnel, business services, and corporate support organizations
  • Monitors progress of the portfolio throughout the year to recommend changes for the following year
  • Maintains the consistency of portfolio data between RPA database and Qlikview
  • Identifies gaps in work resources and manages contractor requests
  • Reports to the Manager, Engineering Services on the progress of projects, and advises on issues that could impair the successful completion of projects
  • Analyzes complex issues and develops actionable recommendations
  • Works with the Lines organizations to recommend scheduled work in accordance with company priorities
  • Provides technical support to the Line department and other internal and external customers
  • Executes the performance management process by providing feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis throughout the year by discussing development opportunities and any performance issues
  • Leads, educates and directs others to improve team effectiveness and communicates results and recommendations to varying audiences including senior leadership
  • Encourages open, honest, direct and ongoing communication amongst team members
  • Drives continuous improvement across the team and company
  • Implements instruction and training of employees in the established work practices and methods utilized throughout the department
  • Efficiently manages time, priorities, backlog of work and section productivity in an environment that strives to provide responsive, best-in-class support to our internal customers
  • Actively seek ways to build, challenge and add value within the scope of assignments
  • Manage diverse projects, processes and programs, promoting a sense of urgency in the team for reaching goals and meeting deadlines, and provide strategic direction
  • Provides leadership during emergencies and storm-related activities and travel to various off-site locations as well as FirstEnergy office locations, and customer sites, when requested

 

 

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, or other technical discipline along with a minimum of seven (7) years relevant work experience.
    • Relevant work experience includes, but is not limited to: engineering design, reliability, substation construction and maintenance, distribution construction and maintenance, asset or project management, new business, business services, etc.
  • Must have working knowledge of the purpose, function and operating characteristics of equipment and systems, (i.e. substation, overhead lines, underground lines), as well as working knowledge of construction methods, maintenance practices, service practices, standards and procedures.
  • Working knowledge, or the ability to learn GIS, CREWS, Construction and Material Standards, FE Distribution Policies and Procedures, DOT and county permit requirements for pole sets, highway occupancy and road openings
  • Must have demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and change implementation, manage multiple priorities and lead others in achieving goals for the benefit of the business unit and company
  • Must have proven ability to make accurate decisions and demonstrate sound judgment under the pressure of sensitive deadlines
  • Must possess superior customer relations, relationship management, leadership, teamwork and managerial skills
  • Must possess the ability to coach, mentor, engage and inspire employees to excel in their roles by communicating clear expectations and measures of success
  • Must have the ability to interpret work requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and procedures
  • Must possess superior analytical skills that lend toward sound decision-making and consideration for long-term implications for the business unit and company
  • Must have proficiency with PC software applications including Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) along with knowledge of SAP, geographical information system (GIS), customer request work scheduling (CREWS), power outage reporting system (PowerOn), computer aided drafting (CAD/AutoCAD) and Energy Delivery Outage Application
  • Ability to understand and apply knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
  • Must understand the Company's Accident Prevention Handbook and apply this to safety in the workplace. Accountable for the safety practices and safe work activities of employees
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation to commute to various facilities and locations as required
  • Ability to adapt communication skills to all audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to lead others in achieving goals for the benefit of the business unit and FirstEnergy
  • Display a creative and entrepreneurial approach to analyzing situations and developing solutions
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with employees at all levels
