About the Opportunity

This is an open position with the Illuminating Company a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [CEI]


This position is 2nd shift - 3:30 pm - 12 midnight.


Under close supervision, assits employees of higher classifiaction; under directive or general directive supervision, engages in moderately skilled work in connection wtih the preventative maintenance and repair of automotive, construction, material handling and other equipment; performs duties such as:

  • Inspecting, removing, installing and replacing such parts as wiring, water and hydraulic pumps, radiators, braces, hangers, fenders, gas tanks, mufflers, tail pipes, belts, oil pans, splash aprons, hydraulic hoses, spark plugs, lighting components and other parts
  • Peforming preventative maintenance on all types of vehicles including installing, adjusting or replacing worn parts in units such as brake systems, distributors, fuel, oil and water pumps and carburetors; inspecting, regapping spark plugs; operating brake drum lathe and other shop equipment; making minor body repairs
  • Utilitzing test equipment such ammeters, volmeteres and engine analyzers in performing assigned duties
  • Performing towing, winching and mechanized snow removal operations
  • Repairing, adjusting, assembling and testing items such as pumps, pneumatic tools, mowers, chain saws, blowers, including the engines used to drive such pieces of equipment
  • Peforming miscellaneous duties as assigned to maintain garage equipment or faciltiies
  • Directing and training assigned employees
  • Performing any of the above work on or off Company premises, as required
  • Performing other work as assigned



Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications; must have the following additional knowledge and skills:

  • Must have at least one year's experience
  • Must have acquired the education equivalent of a high school technical course or specialized automotive training in the armed forces
  • Must have acquired a working knowledge of the functions and operation of the component parts of motor vehicles
  • Must be familiar with the safe application and use of tackle, hoists, mechanic tools and other garage equipment
  • Must know the principles of operation and proper application of the fire fighting equipment installed on the properties to which assigned and the first aid and resuscitation practices prescribed by the Company
  • Must furnish necessary hand tools to perform the duties of Mechanic B
  • Must have passed qualifying examinations
  • Must have current Class A Commercial Drivers License
