About the Opportunity

 

This is an open position with Cleveland Electric Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [CEI]

 

This position reports to the Director, Operations Support and is accountable for managing the Underground Distribution System within the Illuminating Company.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Directing and developing staff responsible for work associated with ducted underground lines and network construction, operations and maintenance.
  • Interpreting labor agreements thoroughly; understanding and applying labor agreements, human resources policies and other company regulations fairly and equitably for all employees.
  • Ensuring adherence to FirstEnergy Preferred Practices, Manual of Operations, Construction Standards and the Accident Prevention Handbook.
  • Assisting the emergency outage restoration process and providing assistance to other areas when needed.
  • Being accountable for the maintenance and repair of the underground electrical system in order to provide reliable service, while maintaining a high level of safety commitment throughout the department.
  • Ensuring timely and efficient electric service to new and existing customers, while measuring and monitoring the departments performance, in the light of goals and objectives, to ensure an effective and efficient operation.
  • Coordinating response efforts regarding major disturbance and emergencies to ensure prompt return to service of affected customers.
  • Recommending and/or implementing, where applicable, changes in job procedures in order to obtain maximum efficiency and effort.

 

 

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline with 7 years related experience required. In Lieu of a degree, 9 years of related experience required. Advanced degree is a plus.
    • Related experience includes but is not limited to: electrical transmission and distribution systems, operations, leadership, construction and maintenance, underground and substations, scheduling and union experienc.
  • Management/leadership experience preferred of front-line supervision.
  • Must be a highly motivated, enthusiastic leader who functions well independently and can communicate, motivating and driving positive workforce change and process improvement.
  • Must be an active thinker and team player who positively challenges those around him/her and is mentally flexible and cooperative.
  • Possessing a working knowledge of electrical engineering practices, underground systems, substation, communications, metering, relay and other electrical equipment is preferred.
  • Possessing a working knowledge of distribution engineering, transmission and distribution, underground line construction and maintenance practices, and overall district operations is preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of the Labor Agreement, the company’s Accident Prevention Handbook, the National Electric Safety Code, as well as the company’s policies, procedures and standards is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Ability to learn other computerized applications such as: Customer Request Work Scheduling (CREWS), the Power Outage Reporting System (Power On) which provided information on location and expected duration of outages and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cascade.
  • Effective leadership skills, to communicate with and direct work of others, ensure safety and create productive and positive work results.
  • Experience in a union environment and the ability to manage under the provisions of a union contract and apply all provisions without preference.
