THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION with The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company (The Illuminating Company), a wholly

owned subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

 

Meter Readers will have assigned reporting locations throughout The Illuminating Company territory. Meter Reader duties

include, but are not limited to:

- Walks to meter location; checks meter number to number on hand-held unit display; notes unusual conditions if necessary;

leaves meter form or "request for assistance form" if necessary.

- Reads dials of electric watthour meters, demand indicators and other meters, and enters accurate readings; verifies meter

numbers with numbers on meters before reading; properly notes when meters cannot be read; resets demand indicators and

reseals them with the correct color-coded seal.

- Examines meters for: broken seals, broken glass, loose meter parts, unsafe conditions such as bare cable, unauthorized use,

stopped meters and any other abnormal conditions; notes and completes forms or reports if tampering is detected.

- Answers customers meter reading inquiries by application of company policies and procedures; assures customers non-meter

reading inquiries are directed to the appropriate employee or department.

- Reports defective company equipment, dogs, hazardous conditions, or incidents which may impair service or create safety

concerns.

- Completes and leaves meter reading forms when customers' premises are locked or inaccessible, and codes accounts

accordingly in the handheld unit.

- Attends safety meetings and instructional sessions as required so that work is successfully performed without accidents or

injuries.

- Familiarizes himself/herself with the FirstEnergy Accident Prevention Handbook and follows all policies and guidelines set forth.

- Drives a vehicle when required; performs service operations such as changing tires; makes minor adjustments and repairs to

keep the vehicle operating in the field; maintains vehicle and equipment in a clean, safe and orderly fashion.

- Works effectively and cooperates with other individuals, departments and organizations.

- Completes assigned meter reading routes within the allotted time period and within departmental accuracy standards.

- Performs other work as assigned.

- Wears company-approved uniform.

 

Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED equivalent.

- Must take and pass company's Meter Reader test

- Able to read and comprehend policies, procedures, visual displays on terminals and other information.

- Valid State of Ohio driver's license and a personal motor vehicle to perform daily job duties.

- Physical ability to: Walk at a reasonable pace for extended periods of time and distance in all weather conditions over a variety

of terrain; Climb stairs, hills, stepladders and over obstructions; Stoop, stretch, kneel, sit and lean to read meters in cramped and unusual locations; and enter and exit a vehicle repeatedly.

- Possess communication and human relation skills to handle customer inquiries in accordance with the company's Service

Standards

- Available to work scheduled hours, which may be nonstandard business

hours, and available for emergency call-in as needed, as determined by supervision.

- Willing and able to acquire additional skills and knowledge to meet performance requirements as required.
