About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.  [SC00]


This position serves as one of FirstEnergy’s liaisons to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).  The position develops and manages relationships with the PUCO with a high degree of integrity and credibility.  The position communicates with the PUCO on company and industry issues.  This position works with internal and external stakeholders to achieve regulatory objectives on matters at the PUCO.


The position reports to the Director, State and Federal Regulatory Affairs.  The position is located in Columbus, Ohio.


Responsibilities include:

  • Manage, maintain and develop positive relationships with the PUCO
  • Serve as a key liaison for FirstEnergy to the PUCO, including communicating about company and industry issues with oversight from management
  • Monitor, analyze and report on all regulatory matters at the PUCO and make recommendations to management to support decision making
  • Build relationships with all FirstEnergy business units
  • Understand and stay current on all applicable laws, pending legislation, administrative rules and policies that impact FirstEnergy
  • Foresee regulatory, legislative and policy opportunities to advance the company’s business objectives
  • Represent FirstEnergy at industry meetings, conferences and events
  • Works with peer utilities, consumer groups, trade associations and other regulatory and legislative stakeholders



  • Bachelor’s degree in business, technical or related discipline required
  • Minimum 5 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include working with external audiences to communicate/advocate positions, and/or regulated utility experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Electric utility industry and utility regulatory experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent business and political acumen
  • Strong ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Exceptional relationship management, leadership and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work after normal business hours, which could include evening or weekend travel to industry conferences, meetings and events
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver results
  • Manage multiple priorities and focus on urgent tasks
  • Ability to understand and manage a wide range of issues that impact the company
