About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Met-Ed, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [ME]

 

This position, located in East Stroudsburg, PA, is responsible for managing and integrating the customer operation center's activities from the initial request for service design and construction as well as the maintenance and repair of the distribution system to provide reliable service.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Understanding and participating in business initiatives and contributing to the overall performance of the operating company.
  • Directing and developing staff responsible for work associated with Transmission & Distribution overhead and underground line construction, operations and maintenance.
  • Managing employees' performance to achieve established objectives.
  • Managing operations from initial request for service through design to construction.
  • Compiling and assessing data to track progress of work.
  • Working with directors, other managers and supervisors and engaging employees to establish and achieve scheduled milestones and appropriate benchmarking measures for safety, reliability, customer service, financial performance and compliance.
  • Responding to customer complaints and formal regulatory authority inquiries.
  • Overseeing preparation and subsequent control of area budget that addresses personnel, material, equipment, line construction, operation and maintenance.
  • Ensuring effective employee/contractor labor mix.
  • Developing effective working relationship with union local.
  • Constantly monitoring employee satisfaction and managing performance and development.
  • Ensuring appraisals and development plans are timely and that compensation is in line with objectives of initiatives.
  • Interpreting labor agreements thoroughly, understanding and applying labor agreements, human resources policies, and other Company regulations fairly and equitably for all employees.
  • Ensuring adherence to the FirstEnergy Preferred Practices, Manual of Operations, Construction Standards and the Accident Prevention Handbook.
  • Managing the emergency outage restoration process and provides assistance to other areas when needed.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a related discipline and a minimum of 7 years related work experience is required.  Bachelor of Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited institution is preferred.
  • OR High School diploma / equivalent and a minimum of 10 years related work experience is required.  Related work experience includes:
    • working knowledge of distribution engineering, transmission and distribution line construction and maintenance practices and overall district operations.
    • thorough understanding of the labor agreement, the National Electric Code and Company policies and standards.
    • Supervisory / leadership experience.
  • Able to learn other computerized applications such as, Customer Request Work Scheduling (CREWS), the Power Outage Reporting System (Power On) which provides information on location and expected duration of outages and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Possess effective leadership skills to communicate with and direct work of others that will ensure safety and produce satisfactory work results.
  • Excellent customer relations skills and strong communication skills to make clear, accurate and concise written and/or verbal reports.
