About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Penelec, at the Erie, PA location, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.[PN]

This job is responsible for supporting operations in the Distribution Control Center (DCC) of the Company.

 

PROFICIENCY (Level I):  Employees are in a learning curve with minimal experience, acquiring new skills and basic discipline-specific knowledge; requires direct supervision and assistance.

 

PROFICIENCY (Level II):  Employees are proficient in job skills, demonstrate and apply an intermediate knowledge of skills required to perform the responsibilities, develop and display a questioning attitude; requires a lesser degree of supervision.

 

PROFICIENCY (Level III):  Employees exhibit full job competency, and have the ability to perform advanced responsibilities in an independent manner; requires minimal to no oversight of supervision.

 

 

Standardized Summary of Responsibilities:  DCC

  • Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Schedule and coordinate switching requests from OHL, UG and SUBS; maintain spreadsheet of work results for scheduled switching; maintain Outstanding Switching Request report, verify assignments point to proper areas; reschedule postponed switching control requests.
  • Assist in the review of Clearance Controls and captured capital time.
  • Report daily completed controls to Business Services for tracking.
  • Review controls and daily logs to track high voltage switches.
  • Assist with performing final review and approval for distribution outages (PowerOn).  Research outages and ensure data is correct.  Communicate with trouble men, operators, and line shops as needed.  
  • Assist with rebuilding circuits in PowerOn (PO), maintain AM/FM Administrator/Power User skills, check circuits for changes, upload as needed per feature count changes; check PowerOn to make sure circuit is rebuilt correctly, and maintain Abnormal/Records Notified prints.
  • Research circuit and/or mapping issues in GIS View and communicate daily with Engineering mapping group.
  • Perform mapping updates in GIS Design as required.
  • Assist in the review and approval of switching in EDOA (Energy Delivery Outage Application and changes in BIM-EDW. 
  • Gain knowledge of switching errors and all aspects of switching.
  • Complete the monthly ELT ETR Template, and report ETR failures.
  • Publish weekly Inoperable and Can Go Normal Reports for Regional Meeting.
  • Assist in maintaining:
    • Telex consoles with updated truck information.
    • EDOA Inoperable Log List.
    • Personnel Maintenance, Station and Line Maintenance in EDOA.
    • Storm Process E-Plan as well as Visio flow charts.
  • Research outages for Call Center, Customer Support Reps and Executives.
  • Ensure accuracy of EMS reporting.
  • Research and complete DDR information.
  • Assist with M41 Substation database as needed.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies and storm-related activities and travel to various off-site locations, as well as FirstEnergy office locations, training facilities and customer sites, when requested.
  • Attend all required regulatory training.

 

Distribution Tech II & III – Additional Responsibilities:

  • Review completed Clearance Controls and captured capital time.

  • Provide support on days of high switching volume and/or high trouble call volume (Pseudo operator).
  • Rebuild circuits in PowerOn (PO), maintain AM/FM Administrator/Power User skills, check circuits for changes, upload as needed per feature count changes; check PowerOn to make sure circuit is rebuilt correctly, and maintain Abnormal/Records Notified prints.
  • Review and approve switching in EDOA (Energy Delivery Outage Application and changes in BIM-EDW. 
  • Knowledge of switching errors and all aspects of switching.
  • Maintain Telex consoles with updated truck information.
  • Maintain EDOA Inoperable Log List.
  • Maintain/approve Personnel Maintenance, Station and Line Maintenance in EDOA.
  • Maintain Storm Process E-Plan as well as Visio flow charts.

*Note:  Related work experience is knowledge of construction and maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools which would be used to determine the resources necessary to perform construction and maintenance work activities.

 

 

  • Gain knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Gain an understanding of the Company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and practical application in the workplace.
  • Interpret work requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and procedures to aid in the development of accurate work plans.  
  • Gain knowledge of:
    • The purpose, function, and operating characteristics of equipment, distribution design, residential, commercial, and utility electrical distribution and control systems
    • Construction methods, maintenance practices, service practices, standards and procedures.
    • Procedures and processes for the acquisition of materials, equipment and tools
  • Understand and effectively apply legal and regulatory requirements as appropriate.
  • Develop, collect, organize, and analyze information from a variety of sources to develop reports and provide information on backlog and productivity.
  • Professionalism to work with engineer and management personnel, as well as interface and work cooperatively with customers, contractors and the general public, in a courteous manner that demonstrates FirstEnergy’s rules of engagement.

  • Must have a personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required and possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Distribution Tech II & III – Additional Qualifications:
