This position can be filled in Fairmont, WV or Akron, OH. 

 

Members of the EMS Systems Administration (Application Configuration Analyst A) team apply software, hardware, networking, and/or engineering principles to support FirstEnergy’s Energy Management System (EMS) environment.  The work focuses on maintaining a system architecture that meets the end-user requirements, while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

 

Responsibilities Include:

Software Management:

  • Manage third-party vendor software on FirstEnergy's standard infrastructure and network platforms
  • Manage the testing and deployment of patches and software upgrades
  • Support real-time SCADA software and database configurations
  • Maintain interfaces between FirstEnergy IT systems
  • Perform system security administration tasks

 

Data Management:

  • Support GE’s e-terraarchive and e-terrasource modules and Oracle databases
  • Support data extraction and transformation through the GE-provided tool set as well as PERL scripts
  • Develop data queries and reporting solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Support enhanced visualization projects for FirstEnergy's transmission control rooms

 

Communication Management:

  • Support GE’s e-terracontrol module running on the EMS Front End Processors (FEP)
  • Support SCADA via Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) communications to FEPs
  • Work with EMS communications hardware

 

Qualifications include:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, related technical discipline, or equivalent years’ work experience
  • Ability and willingness to travel to company sites, work flexible hours, and be available for call-in and after-hours support (7x24 operations) as needed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels and with varying backgrounds

 

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with relevant utility operations (transmission, distribution, generation)
  • Familiarity with client/server environments
  • Experience with databases
  • Data communications and networking knowledge
  • Computer programming skills such as Microsoft Visual C++ and PERL scripting
