About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The position reports to the Supervisor, Customer Service Systems.


This position is primarily responsible for proving billing and controls support related to FirstEnergy’s Smart Meter implementation efforts. Support included establishing billing practices, drafting procedures, attending workshops, creating test plans and data, performing testing, implementing controls, and resolving issues. This position will work closely with other customer service groups, SMIP, Meter Services, Meter Reading, Rates, and IT to ensure a seamless integration of smart meters into FirstEnergy's billing system. This role may also be responsible for other non-Smart Meter Billing and Customer Service Controls activities.


Responsibilities include:


  • Developing queries using SQVI, SQL, SAS, TOAD, Qlikview for assisting with day-to-day business and for ad-hoc requests.
  • Developing and maintaining business tools and solutions using one or more of the following: Excel, SQVI, SQL, SAS, TOAD, Qlikview (e.g. - using Visual Basic to extract SAP data (SQVI reports) and run queries and update Excel reports).
  • Acting as a liaison between IT and SMIP Project using advanced knowledge of all aspects of billing (account setup, meter, tariffs) to ensure SAP can bill accounts with smart meters
  • Attending workshops/meetings as the Business representative to convey the needs of the Business for SAP changes
  • Coordinate all aspects of testing (Create test plans, implement, review results, identify issues/defects found and follow up on resolutions)
  • Identify and resolve issues as they arise
  • Create documentation for new processes
  • Assist in creating training documents
  • Developing and leading process improvement efforts
  • Using knowledge of tariffs and commission rules to help implement changes to current practices as needed
  • Responding to requests from various departments
  • Ability to map processes and identify potential risks involved
  • Ability to recognize and implement process improvements
  • Managing multiple assignments with varying delivery timelines


Qualifications at the Business Analyst level include:


  • Two-year or four-year degree in a related discipline is preferred, along with minimum 4 years relevant work experience required. In lieu of degree, minimum 7 years relevant work experience will be required. Relevant work experience will include strong analytical skills with intermediate technical ability and a strong customer service focus
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with process mapping software preferred
  • Ability to lead, plan, and organize multiple program initiatives
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, VISIO, PowerPoint). Expert in Excel
  • Knowledge of SAP, SAS/TOAD, and scripting preferred
  • Effective interpersonal communications skills to aid in working across the organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of SOx principles a plus
  • Ability to recognize and implement process improvements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to map processes and identify potential risks involved
