About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]


This individual will be responsible for supporting Power Network Analysis within the Transmission Operations Services department.


This position can be located in Fairmont, WV or Akron OH.


Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining, enhancing, and accurately resolving real-time issues of the Network analysis system within the Real-time Energy Management System (EMS).
  • Reviewing and updating SCADA equipment capabilities and ICCP telemetry.
  • Performing and aiding in performing studies relating to the operation of FE Transmission system.
  • Interfacing with Transmission Planning and Protection in preparation of seasonal assessment studies and network model comparisons.
  • Coordinating data changes for new equipment energization such as limit updates and topology changes.
  • Working with External personnel to coordinate joint Network model updates.
  • Working closely with internal staff to support compliance issues.
  • Preparing technical reports, summaries, and make presentations when necessary.
  • Demonstrating a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Supporting real-time Operations during off-hours as part of callout rotation.
  • Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand departmental procedures.                                                   


Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required.  In lieu of a degree, a Professional Engineer’s (PE) License is required. 
  • A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 (three) years of Engineering experience is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of programming in Perl and/or Visual Basics is preferred
  • Familiarity with either or all applications is preferred – GE/Alstom Energy Management System (EMS), Positive Sequence Load Flow (PSLF), Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA), Transmission Line Loadability (TLL), System Operations Requests (SOR), Transmission Adequacy & Reliability Assessment (TARA), PI DataLink, HABDDE/HABExplorer, Primavera Unifier, QlikView
