About the Opportunity

This is an open position at the Harrison Power Station with Mon Power, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FO]

 

This boiler engineer / engineering specialist reports to the Outage Superintendent at the Harrison Power Station in Haywood, West Virginia.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Following established safety and environmental process and regulations including participating in the coaching and mentoring of others in these processes.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment for all employees using a knowledge of potential hazards and governmental and industry regulations and requirements.
  • Supporting FirstEnergy safety initiatives and promoting continuous improvement of contractor safety and environmental compliance.
  • Managing Boiler-related Capital and Outage & Maintenance outage and non-outage projects.
  • Generating work scopes and bid specifications, preparing technical specifications and project justifications, and compiling / reviewing related drawings.
  • Conducting work order planning by creating service/parts requisitions, parts reservations, and communicating with supply chain for the timely creation of purchase orders and communicating this information to contractors and vendors.
  • Supplementing as a contractor representative during forced and maintenance outages and assisting during boiler hydros and inspections.
  • Executing the confined space programs which includes permit creation, air monitor tracking, and preventative maintenance of air monitors.
  • Determining and arranging resources required to perform inspections and maintenance work.
  • Setting priorities and redirecting resources, as required, to ensure that problems are resolved and the outage is performed in accordance to the standard and schedule.
  • Keeping the outage superintendent informed of issues concerning work order planning, safety and housekeeping, resource conflicts in the field, and significant human performance errors.
  • Being on-call to respond to forced outages on a continuous basis which may involve shift work depending on resource availability.
  • Interpreting technical manuals, sketches, prints, and instructions to assist with troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring outage activity associated with outage planning, budgeting, and execution is completed with a high degree of proficiency and quality.
  • Implementing of all post-outage actives in their area.
  • Ensuring all lessons learned are implemented into daily activities and continuous improvement is achieved in their area.
  • Scheduling and participating in all readiness reviews and deep dives.

 

Qualifications

 

Boiler Engineer:

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical) from an ABET-accreditied institution is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience is required.
  • Qualified by American Welding Society (AWS) as "Certified Welding Inspector" (CWI) is required.  Working experience with NBIC, ASME Section 1 (Pressure Parts), ASME Section 2A, 2B, and 2C (Materials), Section 5 (NDE) and ASME Section 9 (Qualifications) is preferred.
  • Possess quality control experience with regard to certified material compliance, specifically: certification of code material upon arrival, issuance of code materials for installation based on material applications, and Section 2 Validation of material test report received.
  • Experience with coordinating outages on boilers, construction projects or equivalent projects is preferred.
  • Experience with scheduling software is preferred.
  • Possess excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word and Excel). 
  • Willing to work extended hours necessary to meet deadlines and to ensure resolution of construction-related issues and problems.
  • Experience with First Energy Facilities, a working knowledge of FE Values, and FE Boiler Repair Practices and Procedures.
  • Good motivational talents and demonstrated capabilities to set well defined performance expectations related to safety, housekeeping, environmental compliance and work quality.


Qualifications - Boiler Engineering Specialist:

 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree and 5 years of related work experience or Associate degree in Science or related field with 7 years of related work experience is required.
  • In lieu of degree, 8 years of related work experience is required. Related work experience includes plant maintenance, operations and outage planning.
  • Experience with coordinating outages, construction projects or equivalent projects is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
