About the Opportunity

This is an open position at the Harrison Power Station with Mon Power, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FO]


This construction engineer / engineering specialist position is located at the Harrison Power Station in Haywood, West Virginia.

Responsibilities include:


  • Following established safety and environmental process and regulations including participating in the coaching and mentoring of others in these processes.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment for all employees using a knowledge of potential hazards and governmental and industry regulations and requirements.
  • Supporting FirstEnergy safety initiatives and promoting continuous improvement of contractor safety and environmental compliance.
  • Managing Capital and Outage & Maintenance outage and non-outage projects including facilities repairs and improvements.
  • Generating work scopes and bid specifications, preparing technical specifications and project justifications, and compiling / reviewing related drawings.
  • Initiating required work independently. 
  • Making evidence-based decisions and maintaining accountability for those decisions by providing facts and rationale.
  • Ensuring that all Construction, safety and human performance requirements are met prior to project site turnover.
  • Providing technical support to contractor personnel related to plant operations, systems and equipment.
  • Supporting project development, providing input to scope development, budget, economic justification, engineering design and constructability issues and assisting in drafting work scope documents.
  • Documenting construction resource performance against expectations, change orders and issues on assigned projects during execution so that problems and deviations are managed and resoled in a timely manner.
  • Utilizing all provisions and terms within the company’s alliance and contractor agreements to achieve quality, productivity and cost effectiveness during the project.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. 



Construction Engineer:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical) from an ABET-accreditied institution is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience is required.
  • Possess excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of various Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Experience with scheduling software is preferred.
  • Willing to work extended hours necessary to meet deadlines and to ensure resolution of construction-related issues and problems.
  • Good motivational talents and demonstrated capabilities to set well defined performance expectations related to safety, housekeeping, environmental compliance and work quality.

Qualifications - Construction Engineering Specialist:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree and 5 years of related work experience or Associates degree in Science or related field with 7 years of related work experience is required.
  • In lieu of degree, 8 years of related work experience is required. Related work experience includes coordinating construction projects, outages or equivalent projects.
