About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Toledo Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [TE]


Performs duties in connection with the location, isolation and repair of faults, and the restoration and maintenance of service on transmission and distribution lines; performs duties such as:

  1. Diagnosing and determining extent of trouble; locating faults and restoring service on overhead lines and equipment, within his capabilities and in accordance with established safety practices and procedures;
  2. Clearing wires; isolating portions of the system and reporting to designated person;
  3. Reporting at fires and accidents where the Company is involved; cooperating with public authorities in clearing or isolating lines and equipment; giving first aid;
  4. Performing operations such as: transferring circuit loads by making cuts and ties; disconnecting underground cables; switching overhead transmission and distribution circuits and customers’ services; switching on underground network;
  5. Locating and repairing faults in overhead street light circuits; isolating faults in underground street light circuits;
  6. Operating Company fire truck equipment when trained and qualified;
  7. Changing insulators and making other emergency repairs on transmission lines, working with “hot line” equipment;
  8. Performing switching and tagging operations in unattended Company and customer substations;
  9. Receiving and handling appropriate calls in the field and referring others to proper employee; determining and reporting, in cases beyond his ability to handle, the extend of repairs, material, equipment and men needed to restore service temporarily or permanently;
  10. Restoring service to single and dual feed underground cable installations such as Franklin Park Mall
  11. Driving trucks and other motor vehicles, in accordance with the Company’s rules and instructions; observing the State and Local requirements for the operation of such vehicles;
  12. Making special inspections, as directed; checking voltages;
  13. Replacing fuses;
  14. Connecting and disconnecting services;
  15. Making required verbal and written reports;
  16. Instructing and training employees in the work;
  17. Performing the duties of Lineman A; and
  18. Working with employees of higher classification and performing other duties in accordance with the section of the “Foreword” of the Job Manual entitled “Duties.”

Must meet the Company’s requirements as to General Qualifications; must have all the qualifications of Lineman A, and in addition:

  1. Must have at least two years of experience as Lineman A, or the equivalent;
  2. Must have demonstrated aptitude for location and correcting faults, and ability in the performance of duties of Lineman A;
  3. Must be able to work from feeder maps and circuit maps;
  4. Must have the ability to determine the nature and extent of trouble, and the temporary or permanent repairs needed to restore service;
  5. Must have a valid State of Ohio, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Operator’s License and meet the Company’s driving requirements;
  6. Must be thoroughly familiar with the location of streets, roads, and the Company’s system in the area to which he is assigned;
  7. Must have a thorough working knowledge of cable fault indicators on URD installations and clearing equipment in trouble and resetting indicators;
  8. Must have a thorough knowledge of the rules and procedures of identifying, tagging and ordering out circuits and equipment as prescribed by the Company;
  9. Must have a working knowledge of switching procedures to restore service to single and double URD cable installations;
  10. Must be able to acquire a familiarity with the underground A.C. network system and be able to properly perform the required switching operations;
  11. Must be able to make neat, concise and accurate reports; must be able to receive and quickly interpret orders; and
  12. Must have the necessary tact, judgement, pleasant manner and neat appearance for meeting customers.
