Position Summary


The Utility Aerial Asset Manager reports to the Director, Flight Operations. This position will oversee the overall effectiveness of Utility Aerial Management System Controls while implementing FirstEnergy safety protocols. Responsibilities include safety reporting, administrating FirstEnergy utility aerial operations personnel training and qualifications. This individual will lead and direct the work of others.


The ideal Candidate will have both an exposure to larger corporate enterprises as well as experience working with individuals in specialized roles. The ability to bridge the gap between the larger business culture and specific technical experts is critical for the success or this position.


Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor FirstEnergy utility aviation vendors for compliance with FirstEnergy risk protocols.
  • Monitor daily activities and planning for deconfliction of all FirstEnergy utility aviation activities as well as deconfliction with known non-FirstEnergy utility aviation activities.
  • Establish liaison with FirstEnergy business unit leaders to implement consistent risk standards across multiple business entities.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a risk management system with risk goals, metrics, and reporting.
  • Develop, manage, and lead a team of internal employee and external contractors to achieve utility aviation asset management goals.
  • Develop strategic goals and metrics that align with FirstEnergy goals.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor utility aviation asset audit program.
  • Participate in industry benchmarking.
  • Maintain an awareness of industry trends and participate in industry conversations.
  • Participate in Utility Aviation Safety Management System as appropriate.
  • Schedule, review, and monitor third party audits.
  • Budget preparation.
  • Train internal employees and external contractors.
  • Perform other duties as requested.




  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related discipline required
  • Minimum 10 years relevant work experience required.  Relevant work experience will include aviation experience, leadership skills and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to understand the business criticality of their roles, the impact to each of the FirstEnergy stakeholders, and develop business cases for strategic initiatives.
  • Innovative thinking to forge new concepts and facilitates unique creative solutions to risks. Ability to align utility aviation asset risk management with other business unit leader’s individual strategic goals.
  • Must possess superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management, risk management, or continuous improvement program experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to work with multiple business entities as well as highly specialized individuals.
  • Exposure of utility aviation safety management systems are desired, but not required.
  • Understanding of the power industry, to include grid layout, transmission, patrol operations, vegetation control, and storm response are desired, but not required.
  • Experience with technologies that prove efficiency to include electronic tracking, aviation scheduling, and sensor technologies.
  • Focus on risk management goal development is highly desired.
  • Basic analytic skills are required which include the ability to work on Microsoft Excel, ability to perform statistical evaluation to include standard deviation, correlation, and R2 analysis.
  • Ability to work with aviation scheduling software (PFM) is desired.
  • Successful candidate will need the ability to speak to large groups.
  • This position will require periodic travel
