About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [DBN]

 

The Nuclear Reactor Engineer position is located at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Developing reactivity plans for power maneuvers.
  • Monitoring reactor core operation and performing applicable testing.
  • Conducting start-up physics testing.
  • Supporting / Performing new fuel receipt and tracking special nuclear material including document preparation.
  • Providing control room support during power changes and responding to control room concerns related to the reactor core operations.
  • Preparing and reviewing procedures associated with reactor core operation and nuclear fuel management.
  • Initiating, investigating, and correcting problems within the FENOC Corrective Action Program.
  • Interfacing with and coordinating activities performed by internal and external engineering organizations and consulting service companies.
  • Managing and completing assigned activities to support timely implementation of required plant operations.
  • Interfacing with customers to identify needs and providing engineering solutions to facilitate operational effectiveness.
  • Working independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Performing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical preferred) from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' related engineering experience is required.
  • Experience related to Nuclear Reactor Core operation and testing, new fuel receipt, and nuclear fuel management is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable about technical matters related to reactor safety and other engineering and scientific support aspects including an understanding of reactivity, instrumentation, computer networks, and transient evaluation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience as well as the ability to perform assigned tasks with limited supervision.
  • Reside within site-specific ERO response time.
