About the Opportunity

This is an open position within Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [DBN]


As an Engineering Co-op, you will also have the opportunity to participate in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development

Program, which is designed to cultivate professional skills and provide professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive a personalized development plan, on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies.


Based on your Engineering discipline, as well as the department and projects you are assigned to, selected candidates may:

  • Assist with implementation of the maintenance strategy through managing preventative maintenance tasks and providing input to work documents
  • Proactively support equipment troubleshooting and development of corrective maintenance activities
  • Provide support for performance of field walkdowns for system monitoring
  • Support data trending to monitor equipment performance and reliability
  • Assist with implementation of engineering programs by performing field inspections and evaluating results
  • Practice and support refueling outage project planning and execution
  • Contribute to the maintenance of engineering program basis documents and procedures
  • Support development of engineering evaluation requests and design modification packages
  • Assist with updates to design basis documents and drawings
  • Support development of calculations as inputs to design basis documents and design modifications
  • Actively assist with reactor core monitoring and trending
  • Support plant operations with reactivity management
  • Support fuel assembly movement, verifications, and inspections



  • Must be enrolled in a four (4) year accredited college / university in a degree program focused on Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear, Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
  • Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
  • Ability to commit to a minimum of two (2) CO-OP rotations
  • Must be willing to relocate to / reside near Oak Harbor, Ohio for the duration of the assignment
  • Successful completion of basic engineering coursework
  • Must be able to work in both an office and plant environment with the ability to comply with safety procedures
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and computer-aided design programs
  • Positive communication skills (verbal and written) as well as organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet project deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use analytical skills to resolve problems and think creatively
