About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [DBN]


Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the Radiation Protection Program is in compliance with federal, state and Company regulations in the areas of monitoring personal internal and external radiation exposure, radioactive source control and instrumentation.
  • Serving as the site expert with regards to Health Physics technical evaluations and regulatory issues.
  • Overseeing the maintenance and coordination of the Radiation Protection (RP) programs including: Unconditional Release, Radioactive Source Control, RP Instrumentation, Respiratory and Radioactive Material Controls.
  • Participating in business planning, budget and business performance review regarding site and fleet.
  • Fulfilling managerial responsibilities regarding assigned staff (e.g. employment, development, compensation, performance evaluations, etc.).
  • Ensuring consistent and effective work force practices through assigned supervisors/functions.
  • Maintaining the internal and external Dosimetry program and records.
  • Ensuring all RP programs remain healthy from a regulatory and INPO best performance standard.
  • Performing assigned Emergency Response Organization (ERO) activities.



  • Shall be competent in technical matters related to plant safety and other engineering and scientific support aspects. (ANSI N18.1-1971).
  • Must have Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or equivalent Bachelor's of Science degree in science/engineering AND 5 years of professional experience at a nuclear power facility OR a minimum of 10 years professional experience in radiation protection at a nuclear power facility.
  • Successful completion of core supervisory/management training and development programs.
  • Successful completion of either the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) or Certified Health Physic (CHP) - certification is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, Station Technical Specifications and Final Safety Analysis Report Documents.
  • Must reside within site-specific ERO response time.
