The Nuclear Chemistry Specialist at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant is responsible for the implementation of chemistry programs, including the radioactive effluents technical specifications (RETS) and radiological environmental monitoring program (REMP).  The Specialist is responsible to ensure the programs are implemented to meet government regulations, company policies and industry best practices.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Executing the RETS/REMP (Radioactive Effluents Technical Specifications and Radiological Environmental Monitoring Program) programs for a boiling water reactor site
  • Preparing and submitting of Annual Environmental and Effluent Release Report
  • Performance of annual land use census
  • Reviewing of radioactive discharge permits
  • Collecting and processing of environmental sampling - including water, vegetables, fish, milk, etc.
  • Performing coordination and oversight of vendors used to support portions of the radiological environmental monitoring program, groundwater monitoring program and waste management program
  • Maintaining applicable REMP equipment
  • Supporting NPDES permit activities
  • Conducting treatment for the control of invasive mollusks
  • Implementing the NEI compliant groundwater monitoring program
  • Implementing the Regulated Waste Management program
  • Interfacing with regulatory and oversight agencies during inspection of assigned programs
  • Performing Emergency Response Organization functions as assigned, including on-call responsibilities.
  • Obtaining and maintaining radiation worker qualifications
  • Operating company vehicle

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Sciences is required
  • In lieu of degree, 4 years' relevant experience in radiological and environmental monitoring is required
  • Possesses familiarity with dose assessment methodologies 
  • Demonstrates precision in data evaluation and report preparation
  • Capable of reading, interpreting and applying applicable regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Reside within site-specific Emergency Response Organization response time
