The Mechanical Systems Engineer provides technical expertise and advocacy for system maintenance and operation in the Perry Nuclear Steam Supply Systems and / or Balance of Plant at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio.


Responsibilities include:


  • Developing and facilitating high-level solutions to complex mechanical system issues in support of plant operations and maintenance
  • Managing diverse projects, processes and programs, and integrating broad strategic concepts
  • Serving as an advanced technical resource and system expert in support of operating requirements
  • Verifying station activities are properly addressed and performed
  • Performing field walk-downs, conducting inspections of plant equipment and interfacing with other groups to resolve emergency and and routine plant issues
  • Trending system parameters and monitoring performance of assigned systems
  • Establishing predictive and preventative maintenance (task and frequency) for assigned systems
  • Reviewing schedules and work orders and developing outage and routine maintenance activity lists.
  • Preparing technical reports and presentations
  • Developing and completing investigations and corrective actions in accordance with the Corrective Action Program
  • Working with engineering representatives from various manufacturers, vendors and industry groups to investigate and resolve system operating problems
  • Performing observations, surveys and assessments of plant activities such as maintenance and operations
  • Providing support for interface with regulatory and oversight agencies
  • Reviewing and analyzing plant operating characteristics and NRC and industry correspondence to identify operating experiences that may be appropriate to identify or resolve plant issues
  • Championing design change improvements and interface
  • Performing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned




  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Desire to continue to learn, grow and work across FirstEnergy Solutions and to deliver results.
  • Able to develop effective working relationships with all employees.
  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make formal technical presentations to various management levels.
  • Reside within site-specific ERO response time.
